Respiratory Therapy Director 

 

Position Summary 

The Respiratory Therapy Director oversees and coordinates all aspects of respiratory therapy services within the facility. This role ensures that residents receive the highest quality of respiratory care in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, as well as facility policies and procedures. The Director provides clinical leadership, manages respiratory staff, and collaborates with nursing and medical teams to support optimal outcomes for residents with respiratory conditions.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Direct and supervise all respiratory therapy services across the facility.  

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate respiratory care plans in collaboration with physicians and nursing staff. 

  • Provide clinical oversight for respiratory therapists and ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory standards. 

  • Maintain and ensure proper function, safety, and inventory of respiratory therapy equipment. 

  • Train and educate staff on respiratory procedures, oxygen therapy, and tracheostomy care. 

  • Monitor residents receiving respiratory therapy and adjust care plans as needed. 

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and clinical reviews. 

  • Track and report outcomes, incidents, and quality metrics related to respiratory services. 

  • Stay current on new technologies, equipment, and treatment techniques in respiratory care. 

Qualifications 

Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT). 

Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of respiratory therapy experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity (preferably in a post-acute, LTAC, or skilled nursing setting). 

Skills: 

Strong clinical assessment and decision-making abilities. 

Excellent communication and leadership skills. 

Familiarity with regulatory standards (CMS, IDPH, Joint Commission, etc.). 

Ability to train, motivate, and mentor staff.
