What does a Therapy Assistant do and what does 'relocation' mean in this job?

A Therapy Assistant supports licensed therapists, such as physical, occupational, or speech therapists, by helping patients perform therapeutic activities, documenting progress, and preparing equipment. When 'relocation' is mentioned in the job, it means the position requires you to move to a different city or region to accept the job offer. Employers often provide support or incentives to help with this move, as therapy assistants are needed in various healthcare settings across different locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Therapy Assistant, especially when considering relocation, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Therapy Assistant, you typically need an associate’s degree in occupational or physical therapy assisting, relevant state certification or licensure, and a solid understanding of therapy techniques. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, therapy equipment, and documentation software is also important. Excellent communication, teamwork, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity are crucial soft skills, especially when relocating to new settings. These competencies ensure effective patient care, smooth transitions into new environments, and strong support for therapists and clients.
