Summary: 

Orangewood Christian School is seeking an experienced Upper School Theatre Teacher / Assistant Theatre Director who is passionate about developing students academically, artistically, and spiritually. This position combines classroom instruction with leadership responsibilities supporting the school's theatre program. The Assistant Theatre Director partners with the Theatre Director in the planning and execution of theatrical productions while teaching theatre courses for grades 7-12, mentoring student performers, and fostering a Christ-centered environment where students develop their God-given gifts through the performing arts.

As a member of the Fine Arts Department, the Assistant Theatre Director contributes to the continued growth of the theatre program and intentionally develops leadership skills through mentorship and progressive responsibilities under the guidance of the Theatre Director.

This position requires a calling to use God-given talents to further the Kingdom of God. The Upper School Theatre Teacher /Assistant Theatre Director is expected to be a minister to the OCS community through actions, speech, attitude, and prayer, as they point students to Christ.

Essential Function: 

TEACHING:

Teach assigned theatre courses for grades 7-12 (maximum teaching load of three class periods per day).

Foster a classroom culture that encourages creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, servant leadership, and artistic excellence.

Design engaging, standards-aligned theatre curriculum that integrates Christian faith and biblical worldview.

Prepare lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials that promote student growth in acting, performance, theatre history, technical theatre, collaboration, and communication.

Utilize effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques to create an engaging learning environment.

Assess student progress and provide timely feedback.

Maintain accurate records through RenWeb.

Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress.

Support the spiritual, academic, artistic, and personal growth of students.

ASSISTANT PROGRAM LEADERSHIP:

Assist the Theatre Director in implementing the vision and goals of the theatre program.

Support program recruitment and student engagement initiatives.

Support the Theatre Director in planning and facilitating weekly Theatre Club activities that promote student engagement and artistic growth. 

Assist in mentoring student stage managers, crew chiefs, Thespian officers, and technical theatre leaders by providing coaching, supervision, and leadership development opportunities.

Collaborate in departmental planning.

Participate in evaluating productions and identifying opportunities for improvement.

THESPIAN SPONSOR:

Assist the Theatre Director in supporting the Sr. and Jr. Thespian Troupe #4749 

Attend all meetings and track student points. Encourage student participation in Thespian events, festivals, and leadership opportunities. Assist students with scholarship and individual event preparation as assigned.

PRODUCTIONS:

The Assistant Theatre Director supports the Theatre Director in all phases of theatrical production. Responsibilities are delegated by the Theatre Director based on the needs of each production and are intended to provide leadership experience while supporting the successful execution of each production.  The Assistant Theatre Director is responsible for inputting rehearsal dates and times and room reservations in the Orangewood Church Planning Center Calendar.

Pre-production Duties:

Assist the Theatre Director with production research, script analysis, and artistic planning. Participate in production planning and design meetings. Assist with auditions, callbacks, and casting logistics. Coordinate assigned pre-production activities. Assist in planning scenery, props, costumes, makeup, and production materials.

During Rehearsals:  Attend rehearsals and provide coaching to performers as directed. Support communication among cast, crew, volunteers, and production staff. Maintain rehearsal schedules, prompt books, and production documentation. Conduct assigned  line-through or speed-through rehearsals under the guidance of the Theatre Director. 

Outside of Rehearsals: Prepare and distribute all rehearsal notes, production updates, and other assigned communications to cast and crew. Create content for approval and sharing on OCS social media accounts.

Performances: Coordinate assigned backstage operations. Support volunteers and student leaders. Help maintain a safe, organized, and professional backstage environment. Assist in resolving backstage issues during performances while maintaining a calm, professional environment. Assist with load-in, strike, and post-production responsibilities.

Supplemental Functions:

Participate in faculty meetings, Fine Arts performances, Parent/Teacher Conferences, admissions events, Open House, graduation, professional development, and other school functions that support the mission and visibility of the theatre program.

Requirements

Preferred Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree

Certification(s) Preferred: Holds or is in the process of earning a Florida Educator Certificate.
