Branch Manager

Department: Operations

Location: Greater New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana

Reports To: Regional Manager / Director of Operations

Position Summary

The Branch Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and profitability of a building materials distribution branch specializing in brick, block, natural stone, hardscape products, masonry supplies, and other construction materials. This position oversees all branch functions, including sales, customer service, inventory management, yard operations, transportation, safety, and financial performance.

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a strong background in building materials, wholesale distribution, construction supply, or related industries. The Branch Manager is responsible for creating a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional customer service while driving revenue growth and operational excellence.

Essential Responsibilities Branch Operations
  • Manage the daily operations of the branch, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable business performance.
  • Lead and develop inside sales, outside sales, warehouse, yard, delivery, and administrative personnel.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service for contractors, builders, architects, landscapers, dealers, and homeowners.
  • Monitor branch productivity and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Ensure the branch consistently meets company operational standards and performance goals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe showroom, warehouse, and yard.
Sales & Business Development
  • Drive branch sales growth while achieving revenue and gross margin objectives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, builders, masons, architects, developers, and commercial customers.
  • Support outside and inside sales teams by identifying new business opportunities.
  • Review pricing, quotations, bids, and customer accounts to maximize profitability.
  • Monitor local market trends, competitors, and product demand.
  • Participate in customer meetings, industry events, and community networking opportunities.
Financial Management
  • Manage branch budgets and operating expenses.
  • Monitor financial performance including sales, margins, inventory turns, and profitability.
  • Review monthly financial reports and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Approve purchasing, inventory adjustments, and operating expenditures within company guidelines.
  • Work closely with accounting to monitor receivables and customer credit issues.
Inventory & Yard Management
  • Oversee inventory levels to ensure product availability while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Ensure proper receiving, storage, rotation, and handling of brick, block, stone, pavers, bagged products, and other building materials.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and investigate inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure efficient yard organization to maximize productivity and customer service.
Transportation & Logistics
  • Coordinate delivery schedules with dispatch and transportation teams.
  • Ensure timely and accurate customer deliveries.
  • Monitor fleet utilization and equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company transportation policies.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a strong culture of workplace safety.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and facility inspections.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses while implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on equipment operation and safety procedures.
Leadership & Employee Development
  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop branch employees.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish employee development plans.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Manage scheduling, staffing, and workforce planning.
  • Recognize and reward employee performance while addressing performance concerns professionally.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of management experience in building materials, masonry supply, construction materials, wholesale distribution, or a related industry.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multiple departments and employees.
  • Strong knowledge of brick, concrete block, natural stone, pavers, retaining wall systems, and masonry products preferred.
  • Experience managing inventory, logistics, transportation, and customer service operations.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, P&L management, and margin analysis.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Acumatica, Epicor, Prophet 21, or similar is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license. CDL A or B is a plus, but not required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Knowledge of estimating, construction plans, and project coordination.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Forklift certification or knowledge of material handling operations is a plus.

Work Environment

This position combines office, showroom, warehouse, and outdoor yard responsibilities. The Branch Manager regularly interacts with employees, customers, vendors, and delivery personnel. Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking through the yard and warehouse, and operating in varying weather conditions may be required.
