What you'll do

As aย Body Systemsย Engineerย Team Leaderย (SET-Leader)ย forย Body Metal Team, you will be involved in the "cradle to grave" approach to design & development. Expected to create concept design for novel solutions to current and new opportunities. Lead analysis of concept and final product, testing & launch, commercial & timing activities, and work with studio, manufacturing team and purchasing.ย ย  You will be collaborating and leadingย the teams towards deliverable goals.

  • SET-Leaders are organizationally assigned to aย Body Systems Engineering Teamย (futureย product development) andย have a matrix relationship to the Technical Program Leaders (TPL) in Research & Development.ย 
  • SET-Leaders are responsible, together with theย Design Release Engineers (DRE), Purchasing, Finance, Manufacturing, Quality andย Logisticsย Team Members, for cross-departmental planning and management of activities as well as ensuring compliance with target specificationsย specifically in Exterior (Bumpers, Lighting,ย Trim, Glazing, IP, Console,ย Seats and Restraints).ย 
  • They are accountable for the efficient integration of their L3 scope into the vehicle up to series regarding technical, cost, timing, and quality targets, as well asย Timingย deliverables.ย ย ย 
  • Main activities:ย 
    • Lead technical decision-making and approve technical solutions for assigned body metal subsystem scope.ย 
    • Ensure the documentation needed for the forward sourcing plan (spec books/ย Quotation Details/ etc.) on time.ย 
  • Create and agreeย timing progression parts/system to MRD deliverableย cross-functionally.ย ย 
  • Track and ensure the changes needed for technical evaluationย and Issue Resolutions.ย 
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with the project timelineย ย 
  • Own assigned body metal subsystem development activities from concept through production launch, including technical performance, cost, quality, and timing deliverables.ย 
  • Independently manage technical issues, trade-off decisions, and cross-functional activities within assigned system scope.ย 
  • Serve as the primary engineering owner for assigned body metal systems and drive issue resolution through production release.ย 

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role may be based out of theย Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.ย 
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.ย 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the companyย from time to time.
  • Some travel to our manufacturing site in Columbia, SC and our Innovation Center in Novi, Michigan will be required.ย

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Master's degree and significant experience is a plus)ย 
  • 5+ years' experience in Bodyย engineeringย development or equivalent industry experience.ย 
  • Knowledge of VW Group tools and process is a huge plus.ย 
  • Understanding of product requirements and features to deliver world class customer experience.ย 
  • Strong understanding of 1stย principal physics of aย system -loads, forces, and overall function of the system, and tradeoffs among design, package, function, and customer experience involved with these systems.ย 
  • Ability to self-direct, self-managing issues to closure involving all necessary teams, and adapt quickly to program changes.ย 
  • Strong desire to create unique methods for analysis using tools available.ย 
  • CAD design experience for closures systems or related vehicle components. Catiaย V5 and/orย 3DXย experience preferred but not required.ย 
  • Advanced use ofย toolsย for analyzing structural performance, motion forces, kinematic performance, manufacturing options with rapid iterations.ย 
  • Knowledge of an automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices.ย 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity.ย 
  • Ability to deliver under pressure and manage component designย andย development within cost, weight, and timing constraints.ย 
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers, manufacturing, and testing facilities as required throughout product development and launch.ย

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial Base Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00
