About Levitate Backyard
Levitate Backyard is more than just a place to grab a bite-it's a vibrant, community-centric outdoor venue where food, music, culture, and surf/skate roots collide. We pride ourselves on delivering a laid-back but high-energy atmosphere, serving up killer food and drinks to our South Shore community and summer visitors alike. If you thrive in a fast-paced, creative, and collaborative environment, you'll fit right in.
Position Overview
We are seeking a talented, high-energy Sous Chef to join our culinary team for the upcoming busy season. As the Sous Chef, you will be the right hand to our CDC, helping to lead the kitchen crew, maintain impeccable food quality, and keep the line running smoothly during our peak hours and live events.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled cook looking to step into leadership or an experienced sous chef who wants something new and fast paced-with the major perk of a 4-day work week, giving you 3 full days off to enjoy the New England summer.
Key Responsibilities
  • Kitchen Leadership: Assist the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, supervising line cooks, and ensuring a positive, high-performing team culture.
  • Line Management & Prep: Lead by example on the line during high-volume service, ensuring ticket times are met without sacrificing quality or presentation.
  • Quality Control: Oversee food preparation, portion control, and presentation to ensure every dish meets Levitate's standards.
  • Inventory & Ordering: Assist with inventory tracking, ordering, and food waste management to keep food costs in check.
  • Safety & Sanitation: Maintain a spotlessly clean kitchen, enforcing all local health department regulations, food safety protocols, and sanitation standards.
  • Event Support: Help execute special menus for live music events, community gatherings, and private parties in the Backyard.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience as a Sous Chef, Lead Line Cook, or Kitchen Supervisor in a high-volume restaurant or busy outdoor venue.
  • Culinary Chops: Strong knife skills, deep knowledge of food safety, and the ability to cook flawlessly under pressure.
  • Leadership Style: A positive, level-headed leader who motivates the team rather than managing through stress.
  • Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs. This is a high-volume, fast-paced summer gig!
  • Certifications: ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification is highly preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Availability: Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Levitate is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
