 About the Role

The Gas Field Technician I is responsible for learning the Centric Services way. The Field Technician I will focus on ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of natural gas to residential and commercial properties, while remaining in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The Field Technician I will participate in ride-alongs with the Supervisors and Field Technician II associates in their assigned territory to begin learning the processes and procedures required for the position. Obtain all Operator Qualification (OQ) Certifications to become a Field Technician II.

This is a field-based position, in which you would be reporting to our warehouse location then traveling out into the field for your work within our Centric communities.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
  • Respond appropriately to mitigate risks and protect life and property.
  • Perform day-to-day operations to include, but not limited to, the following: Gas Turn-Ons, Gas Turn-Offs, Gas Transfer Reads, Install/Remove/Maintain Residential Meter and Regulator Sets,  Install/Remove/Maintain Marker Posts, Perform Flow and Lock, Measure & Builds, Install/Remove/Program Automated Meter Reader, Meter Reads Radio/Manual
  • Interact with customers professionally and courteously to address inquiries, explain procedures, and provide guidance on gas usage and safety.
  • Respond to emergency calls during your normal working hours and after hours if needed.
  • Identify and address issues with gas lines, appliances, and equipment.
  • Function as a responsible link for communication between Construction Managers and Centric Operations, as well as serve as a liaison between Centric and City Officials/Representatives/Customers.
  • Safely drive and maintain the company service truck, including routinely stocking, inspecting, and cleaning the truck cab, bed, and bins.
  • Maintain a clean driving record, along with up-to-date Smith Certification.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper flow, pressure, and operation of the regulator, as well as conducting inspections and pressure tests to ensure integrity and safety of gas lines and connections.
  • Use the GIS System to ensure proper installation of gas service lines and/or mains.
  • Collaborate with other Centric employees in a team environment to coordinate tasks and projects.
  • Be physically able to work in various weather conditions and tight spaces while adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Stay up to date with safety protocols, industry best practices, and innovative technologies in gas systems.
  • Must be readily able to smell the Mercaptan in natural gas at 1%.
  • Responsible for completing locate tickets, when necessary.
  • Able to use a smartphone, tablet, laptop, and various software applications.
  • Complete and maintain all Operator Qualifications assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1+ years of experience in the utilities industry, preferably natural gas.
  • Ability to obtain OQ Certifications within three (3) months of hire.
  • Interpersonal skills required in dealing with Project Managers, vendors, contractors, and customers.
  • Normal hours of operation 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday with availability to work overtime is required from time to time to meet the needs of the business.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred related experience in a field operations environment.
  • Understanding of local codes and regulations.
