Testing Associate Jobs in Dixon, CA (NOW HIRING)

Under the supervision of the District Materials Engineer, a Senior Transportation Engineer, and the general direction from the assistant lab manager and lab lead worker, a Materials and Research Engineering Associate (MREA), the incumbent performs a variety of complicated and specialized testing laboratory procedures of highway construction materials and other related material testing work. The incumbent uses engineering calculations and computer-oriented processes to compile, analyze, and report material testing results. The incumbent will assist in maintaining and calibrating tools, equipment, and devices in Construction Field Labs throughout the North Region. Certifications in Caltrans Test Methods (CTM), American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHTO), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and American Concrete Institute (CTI) for the various test procedures mandated by the Standard Specifications and Special Provisions is required. Possession of a valid driver's license is required to operate a State-owned or leased vehicle.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Materials and Research Engineering Associate (Specialist) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
Position located at 1050 River Ranch Rd. Fortuna, CA 95540
Incumbent may be required to work in a variety of environments. At the base of operations, tasks will usually be performed in a climate-controlled environment with natural and artificial lighting. Incumbent will be required to work with and around materials in excess of 300 degrees Fahrenheit and around various orders of asphalt, aggregate, concrete, and associated compounds and byproducts including, but not limited to, dust, noise, sulfur and petroleum fumes. Incumbent must wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with the Department Safety Manual, Laboratory Safety Manual, and CalOSHA requirements. PPE's include, but are not limited to, hard hat, safety vest, respirator, safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, and proper footwear. Possession of a valid driver's license is required to operate a State-owned or leased vehicle. There will be periodic field trips to project sites, travel to meet with agencies, the public, and for training classes. Incumbent must be able to travel to project locations away from their home requiring overnight travel; must be able to work overtime when needed; must be able to work on foot near heavy traffic; must be able to work in extreme weather conditions including wet, cold, hot, dusty and dirty environments.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
