Position Description: Test Technician II 

The Test Technician II at LayerZero Power Systems LLC is responsible for executing standardized and custom electrical test methodologies on power systems equipment. This role involves the application of advanced diagnostic techniques, operation of precision test instrumentation, and implementation of both manual and automated test procedures. The technician will play a key leadership role in supporting new product validation and production testing while operating with minimal supervision. 

This position requires a technically proficient professional who demonstrates strong leadership qualities, including initiative, accountability, mentorship, and the ability to guide team members while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. 

Requirements

Primary Duties: 

  • Perform functional inspection and electrical testing of power distribution equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and associated assemblies. 
  • Execute troubleshooting and fault isolation of AC/DC power and control circuits within a voltage range of 0-600V. 
  • Conduct component-level diagnostics and corrective actions, including repair and rework of electrical, control, and fiber optic assemblies (e.g., termination, crimping, routing). 
  • Configure and program embedded or industrial electronic devices; interface with test systems via computer-based tools and software platforms. 
  • Develop, execute, and document test procedures; generate detailed test reports using digital documentation tools. 
  • Operate a wide range of electrical test equipment, including multimeters, current meters, and specialized diagnostic instruments. 
  • Interpret and manipulate mechanical and electrical systems using appropriate tools and controls. 
  • Maintain proficiency across all product testing protocols and procedures. 
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior technicians  
  • Perform physical tasks associated with the role, including prolonged standing, bending, reaching, and kneeling as required in a production environment. 
  • Work with design engineering and production engineering to resolve technical issues.  

Experience & Skills: 

  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing AC/DC electrical systems (0-600V) in industrial or commercial applications. 
  • Hands-on experience operating electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters and current meters. 
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings. 
  • Proficiency in electrical assembly techniques and the use of standard hand tools. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and proper PPE usage desired. 
  • Experience with electrical component assembly, wiring, and system integration preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of electronics and circuit-level troubleshooting methodologies. 
  • Experience with precision measurement tools and instrumentation. 
  • Independently analyze system failures and implement corrective actions for all models. 
  • Proven experience in training team members, resulting in improved performance, efficiency, and skill development. 
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, and file management systems. 
  • Basic programming or scripting knowledge for device configuration or test automation is desirable. 
  • Demonstrated leadership competencies, including initiative, decision-making, problem-solving, and the ability to influence and guide team performance. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail in technical documentation. 

Education: 

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or Equivalent Military Electrical Training, or Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience performing electrical testing using voltage/current measurement equipment in the power systems industry.
