Meter Reader

Location: Lake Havasu City, AZ
Salary Range: $20.67 - $29.98 / Hourly 
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Grade CP5)
Department: ASD / Customer Service

Lake Havasu City is seeking a self-motivated, community-oriented professional to fill the role of Customer Service / Meter Reader. Under the moderate supervision of the Customer Service Manager, this position serves as a vital liaison between field operations and administrative customer service, ensuring the accurate and efficient management of the city's water utility services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Operations: Execute service orders accurately, including the connection, disconnection, and temporary shut-off of water services.
  • Utility Investigation: Inspect locations with high consumption reads to determine causes; perform visual inspections of meter boxes for damage or abnormal conditions and submit repair orders to Public Works as required.
  • Customer Relations: Respond to citizen inquiries, complaints, and requests in a calm, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Data & Records Management: Maintain detailed records, perform accurate data entry, and complete required compliance paperwork.
  • Safety & Navigation: Safely operate city vehicles and navigate various property terrains, maintaining high situational awareness regarding obstacles or domestic animals.

Minimum & Special Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimal experience in public utility maintenance, customer service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensing: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.
  • Core Skills: Strong proficiency in basic arithmetic, clear verbal and written English communication, and exceptional attention to detail.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Regularly requires walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and navigating outdoor terrains.
  • Occasional exertion of force up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions and varying localized environments.

Lake Havasu City sits comfortably on the eastern shore of Lake Havasu along the Colorado River border of California and Arizona. The city was established in 1963 by Robert P. McCulloch, Sr. as a self-sufficient, planned community.
