Job description

Overview

We are seeking multiple early career Test Engineers in the Microcircuit Emulation Center at SRI International (formerly Sarnoff Corporation) to support the manufacturing of microcircuits (integrated circuits). Through SRI's Generalized Emulation of Microcircuits (GEM) and Advanced Microcircuit Emulation (AME) programs, the Microcircuit Emulation Center supplies form, fit, function, and interface (F3I) replacements for obsolete microcircuits. This capability supports production, redesign, and sustainment requirements for the life of a weapon system. SRI's Microcircuit Emulation Center is a government-supported, U.S.-based Trusted foundry. This role is 100% on site in Princeton, NJ with no relocation assistance. READ MORE ABOUT OUR WORK HERE

This role will support the manufacturing processes in the semiconductor industry and will be responsible for:

  • Interpreting, defining, documenting, and implementing methods to perform accurate and efficient characterization and QML screening of microcircuits (digital, analog, and mixed signal technologies)
  • Writing and debugging test programs for microcircuits to perform detailed wafer probe, device characterization and/or production QML screening
  • Maintaining and improving methods for the test and measurement of microcircuits
Responsibilities
  • Ability to read and learn methods to perform accurate and efficient characterization and QML screening of microcircuits (digital, analog, and mixed signal technologies) in compliance with MIL-PRF-38535, MIL-STD-883, SMDs, M38510 and other applicable customer requirements.
  • Follow and understand the activity required to write and debug test programs for microcircuits to perform detailed wafer probe, device characterization and/or production QML screening using dedicated semiconductor Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems similar to HP82000, Advantest V93000, and Teradyne microFlex
  • Maintain and learn the existing methods for test and measurement of microcircuits using ATE, advanced bench equipment, specialized board fixtures, generation of semi-automated interface scripts (LabView) and others as necessary
  • Review test results and characterization data for consistency, accuracy, and coherency; learn how to identify and troubleshoot setup or measurement error issues as necessary
  • Be involved in interactions with microcircuit end-users and customer program managers to learn and understand test specifications, results and issues
  • Collaborate with design engineers to create and perform diagnostic testing of microcircuits as needed
  • Collaborate with other test engineers to provide technical guidance and consulting to design engineers as appropriate
Qualifications
  • HS diploma with 5 years experience testing microcircuits OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • U.S. Citizenship or Perm Residency required due to government contracts.
  • Experience with or knowledge of practical electrical tools (ex: multimeter, oscilloscope) and some electrical related skills (ex: soldering, basic circuit troubleshooting)
  • Desire to learn both theoretical and practical aspects of metrology as related to electronic measurements (i.e. test fixture design, measurement accuracy, test guard-bands, etc)
  • Experience/knowledge with Unix/Linux workstation and PC (Windows) environments; demonstrated ability in relevant programming languages (i.e. C, C++, LabView, etc)
  • Critical thinking skills, with hyper focused attention to detail and the ability to follow complex processes
  • Ability to follow direction, execute tasks and update as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to reprioritize tasks to meet shifting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret semiconductor related test documentation (i.e. military device specifications and standards documentation, commercial data sheets, application notes, etc) in order to complete characterization and screening tasks
  • Working knowledge of ATE systems preferred but not required

The salary range is: $63,873-$84,636. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
