Torch Technologies is seeking a TMD Test Engineer to provide hands-on Aviation Test Engineering support to the Aviation Mission Systems and Architecture Project Office, Technical Management Division (TMD). This role is focused on executing Test & Evaluation (T&E) and early risk reduction events to verify system performance, airworthiness, safety, and mission readiness for rotary-wing aircraft.
As an Aviation Test Engineer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:
  • Work as a Test liaison to facilitate key test objectives and integrate the Test efforts and results with other program and mission areas that are supported by other military, civilian, Systems Readiness Division, test ranges, and contractor personnel.
  • Provide on-site technical support for aviation testing, including Software Integration Lab (SIL), flight, ground, environmental, and survivability tests.
  • Lead and participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and system design reviews.
  • Develop, review, and maintain essential test documentation, such as test plans, flight test cards, and the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP).
  • Collaborate directly with flight test crews, instrumentation engineers, and maintenance teams to ensure safe and compliant test execution.
  • Generate technical reports and findings based on empirical test data to support critical Army Milestone Decisions (e.g., LRIP, FRP, and sustainment upgrades).
  • Review lab and flight test results to support Airworthiness Qualification and Army flight release processes.
  • Identify technical risks, safety hazards, and program vulnerabilities during testing, and help develop strategies to protect the schedule, budget, and personnel.

Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years applicable related experience.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Hands-on experience supporting military avionics test events (flight, ground, SIL, or component level).
  • Experience using systems engineering processes to assess and verify system requirements during live and lab-based testing.
  • Ability to collaborate with senior-level staff across Aviation, Engineering Directorates, and partner Project Offices to resolve test anomalies.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple test events simultaneously in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting or monitoring MIL-STD-810 environmental testing and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) testing.
  • Familiarity with Army airworthiness certification or FAA civil aviation authority processes.
  • Experience working within an Army acquisition Program Office, with an understanding of acquisition policies, program goals, and standard workflows.
