Job Purpose
Lead and deliver full life cycle, ruggedized electromechanical systems for Komatsu Mining Technology Solutions. This role exists to consolidate functional management and ownership responsible for board-level electronics, sensor fusion, mechanical assemblies, and system integration of product offerings in harsh mining environments. This position ensures product roadmaps align with Komatsu's strategic objectives, capital plans, and accelerated go-to-market timelines.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • END TO END HARDWARE DELIVERY: Oversee project execution from concept through production, ensuring on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery of electromechanical solutions (computers, displays, GNSS, radios, Wi-Fi, sensor fusion, harnesses, mounts) in harsh mining environments.
  • DRIVE CROSS FUNCTIONAL SYSTEMS INTEGRATION: Lead small pods of systems, electrical, and mechanical engineers to architect and integrate subsystems-ensuring reliability under extreme conditions and meeting IPX6 requirements.
  • DRIVE TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT: Build, mentor, and empower multidisciplinary teams, set KPIs, conduct performance reviews, and implement training plans to enhance core competencies and career growth.
  • DESIGN GOVERNANCE & QUALITY ASSURANCE: Establish best-practice design standards (process guides, technical reference guides, design rules, checklists), oversee design reviews, and enforce compliance with product development processes, ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems and ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
  • STRATEGIC ROADMAP & BUDGET PLANNING: Develop and execute 1-3 year technology roadmaps, manage annual capital and expense budgets, perform 18-month resource forecasting, and align schedules with corporate strategy and go-to-market trends.
  • SUPPLIER & VENDOR MANAGEMENT AND RISK: Collaborate with global suppliers and third-party vendors to source best-of-breed components, negotiate contracts, lead custom product initiatives, and mitigate technical or supply-chain risks.
  • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT & OPTIMIZATION INITIATIVES: Drive Lean/Six Sigma projects, monitor KPIs, refine processes, and implement optimizations to accelerate development cycles and enhance system reliability.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT & COMPLIANCE OVERSIGHT: Conduct feasibility studies, testing, and analysis on new projects; manage compliance with industry standards and oversee risk mitigation to uphold safety and reliability.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or related technical discipline).
  • Strong skills in engineering design and development.
  • 8+ years progressive engineering experience, including ≥3 years leading multidisciplinary product design teams for rugged/industrial products.
  • Proven record delivering end-to-end electromechanical systems (PCB, GNSS, communications, sensor fusion, harnesses, mounting) from concept through production.
  • Hands-on expertise with CAD/ECAD (SolidWorks, Altium), PLM tools, and embedded-systems basics.
  • Familiarity with IPX6 ruggedization, thermal management, EMC/EMI mitigation, and mining-grade environmental requirements.
  • Up to 20% domestic/international travel to supplier sites, test labs, manufacturing, other Komatsu facilities and mining sites for field validation.

Desired Skills
  • Master's in Engineering Management, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
  • PMP or equivalent project-management certification.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous-improvement certification.
  • Prior experience managing product development in mining, heavy equipment, or adjacent industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence in a matrixed, global organization.
