Job description

Frontend Engineering Manager (Team Lead)

Join the team: Spectrio Careers

Spectrio empowers human engagement by creating authentic experiences through content, innovation, and measurable insight that drive growth.

Spectrio isn't just a digital signage provider; we are the architects of modern customer experiences. From healthcare to automotive, we empower over 150,000 global locations to transform their physical spaces into dynamic digital destinations.

Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, Spectrio consistently ranks among the fastest-growing and largest companies in the Tampa Bay area. As an 11-time Inc. 5000 honoree and a member of the Tampa Bay Business Journal's "Fast 50" and "Tampa Bay 200," we are a proven leader in innovation. Our software consistently receives praise for its features and ease of use on Capterra and G2, earning multiple awards for technology and creative excellence.

Primary Objective: As the Frontend Engineering Manager (Team Lead) at Spectrio, you will lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of 8+ Frontend Engineers building the web applications that power our Digital Signage Content Management System (CMS) Platform. This is a hands-on, player-coach role: you'll set frontend architecture and quality standards, stay in the code through reviews and pairing, and drive the modernization of a multi-generation Angular codebase into a clean, signal-driven Angular 20 architecture. You'll partner closely with the backend, device, and product teams to deliver fast, secure, and scalable experiences for a growing subscription-based platform.

Responsibilities include:

Technical Leadership & Hands-On Engineering

  • Stay in the Code: Write, review, and ship production Angular alongside the team; keep a meaningful share of your time hands-on.
  • Architecture Standards: Own frontend architecture - standalone components, Signals-based state, zoneless change detection, modern control flow (@if/@for/@switch), and a clear state-management strategy (NgRx / NgRx Signals).
  • Modernization: Lead incremental migration from legacy Angular (v10v12, Akita, Karma/Jasmine) into the modern stack (Angular 20, Jest + Angular Testing Library) without big-bang rewrites or stalling feature delivery.
  • Design Systems: Drive consistency and reuse with Angular Material and a shared component library.

Quality, Testing & CI/CD

  • Test Strategy: Own a layered testing approach across unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; set coverage expectations and keep suites fast and reliable.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Build and maintain automated pipelines (GitHub Actions) for linting, testing, builds, and deploys to AWS and Cloudflare.
  • Quality Gates: Enforce ESLint, Prettier, Husky pre-commit hooks, and a healthy PR review culture.

Architecture, Performance & Scale

  • Performance: Own bundle size, lazy loading, change-detection efficiency, and Core Web Vitals; profile and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Scalability & Load: Build UIs that stay responsive at scale - large datasets, high-volume real-time streams, and large device fleets - and validate behavior under load.
  • Real-Time Data: Design resilient real-time integrations using WebSockets, MQTT, and Server-Sent Events (SSE) for device-to-cloud and live dashboard scenarios.

Security & Compliance (SOC 2)

  • Secure SDLC: Champion secure coding practices and support SOC 2 controls - secure SSO/OAuth/OIDC flows, safe token handling, XSS/CSRF protection, Content Security Policy, and least-privilege access.
  • Supply Chain: Manage dependency and supply-chain risk (SCA, vulnerability remediation, secrets hygiene) across the frontend and CI/CD pipeline.
  • Audit Readiness: Help produce evidence and uphold change-management and access controls required for audits.

People & Performance Management

  • One-on-Ones: Regular touchpoints focused on career growth, unblocking, and building trust.
  • Performance & Reviews: Set expectations, deliver continuous feedback, and write formal performance reviews.
  • Hiring & Team Building: Run technical screens, raise the bar, onboard new talent, and manage exits or PIPs when needed.

Agile Process & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Sprint Planning & Delivery: Partner with the team to refine, estimate, and deliver a predictable backlog; track team health and KPIs (velocity, cycle time).
  • Cross-Team Alignment: Collaborate with backend, device, in-reality, and product leaders on API contracts, architecture, and technical cohesion.
  • Escalation Management: Serve as a point person for high-priority production issues affecting the frontend.

Technical Requirements

  • Angular Mastery: Deep, recent Angular experience (v12+; comfort with v20 patterns strongly preferred) and strong TypeScript fundamentals.
  • State Management: Proven experience with NgRx or equivalent (NgRx Signals a plus) and RxJS.
  • Testing Depth: Hands-on with frontend unit, integration, and E2E testing (Jest, Angular Testing Library, Cypress/Playwright, or Karma/Jasmine/Protractor).
  • CI/CD: Practical experience building and maintaining pipelines, ideally with GitHub Actions.
  • Real-Time: Working knowledge of WebSockets, MQTT, and SSE.
  • Performance: Demonstrated ability to optimize for performance, scalability, and load.
  • Security: Familiarity with web security best practices and compliance-driven development (SOC 2 or similar).
  • Cloud & Tooling: Experience with AWS, Cloudflare, GitHub, and awareness of MongoDB Atlas-backed services.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in Digital Signage CMS or similar SaaS web application development.
  • Modern Angular at scale: standalone components, Signals, zoneless change detection.
  • SSO/identity integration (OAuth2/OIDC, Auth0, or generic enterprise SSO).
  • Data-visualization-heavy UIs (ECharts, Plotly, D3) and real-time/analytics dashboards.
  • Multi-app or monorepo frontend organization.
  • Hands-on SOC 2 audit participation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of professional Software Engineering experience, with a strong focus on frontend development.
  • 2+ years directly leading or Managing Engineers (1-on-1s, performance reviews, career development), ideally a team of 5+.
  • Expert-level Angular and TypeScript, with a track record of shipping and maintaining production single-page applications.
  • Proven experience designing and enforcing layered testing strategies (Unit, Integration, E2E) and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of frontend performance, scalability, and load optimization.
  • Working knowledge of real-time communication (WebSockets, MQTT, SSE).
  • Familiarity with secure development practices and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Cloudflare, and GitHub.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for cross-functional stakeholders.

Personnel Supervisory Role:

The Team Lead serves as a first-line supervisor. While this role directs and evaluates staff daily, the Department Manager and People Operations retain final authority regarding termination, hiring, and salary adjustments. The responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-Day Oversight: Monitor daily workflow, task assignment, and output quality for a designated team of employees and/or contractors.
  • Performance Management: Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide coaching, feedback, and professional development guidance.
  • Administrative Approval: Review and approve timecards, leave requests, and expense reports in alignment with company policy.
  • Resource Allocation: Identify bandwidth issues and redistribute tasks to ensure project deadlines are met without burnout.
  • Talent Acquisition Support: Participate in the interview process for potential new hires or contractors and provide formal feedback/recommendations to the hiring manager.
  • Performance Documentation: Maintain objective records of performance wins and challenges to support annual reviews or formal
