Description:

We are seeking a Test Engineer to join our team in Manassas, VA. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting test procedure development, assisting senior engineers during system verification, documenting test results, identifying issues, and helping with basic hardware setup and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will bring experience with Navy submarine combat or training systems, including familiarity with AN/BYG-1, basic computer/network hardware skills, attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to follow established procedures. If you enjoy hands-on technical work, learning complex systems, and supporting mission-focused test efforts, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

This is a full-time position. The annual base salary is $78,000 – $86,000, with final compensation based on experience and skills. U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must have an active Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of hire.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is eligible for a sign on bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), Flexible Spending Accounts, Life Insurance, 401(k) plan with matching company contributions, paid time off, holidays, and tuition and training reimbursement.

Requirements:

You'll be responsible for:

  • Assisting with the creation and updating of basic test procedures and documentation for Navy training system readiness.
  • Supporting senior testers during system verification and acceptance events at customer or partner sites.
  • Helping identify and report functional or performance issues found during testing.
  • Recording test results, updating logs, and contributing to simple test report sections as directed.
  • Assisting with setup, configuration, and basic troubleshooting of hardware, networks, and test environments.
  • Participating in demonstrations and team discussions to gain understanding of system design and provide early test-related observations.
  • Supporting routine installation and maintenance tasks for computer and network hardware under guidance.
  • Maintaining hardware inventories and updating documentation for minor configuration changes.
  • Working on clearly defined tasks with direct supervision, with opportunities to increase responsibility over time.
  • Primarily working during standard business hours, with occasional planned schedule adjustments to support testing events.

Required Skills:

  • U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance at time of hire.
  • Some experience with or exposure to the AN/BYG-1 Combat Control System (operator, maintainer, tester, or integrator experience all acceptable).
  • Familiarity with submarine combat systems, the SWFTS community, or similar Navy tactical/training environments.
  • Basic hands-on experience with computer or network hardware installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and accurately document work.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and develop stronger system knowledge.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior Navy or submarine operations experience, especially sonar or combat systems.
  • Experience supporting Navy training systems or test events.
  • Introductory familiarity with systems engineering or structured test methods.
  • Basic understanding of networks, system integration, virtualization, or Linux/Windows environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work well within a technical team and adapt as requirements evolve.
