Job description

PeaceHealth is seeking a Medical Assistant - Neurology for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $25.62 - $34.58. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary
In collaboration with the healthcare team, assists physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care working within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant.
Essential Functions
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment or anesthesia interview as applicable. Takes and records patient history and vital signs as applicable.
  • Prepares exam and/or treatment rooms; selects, setup and maintains medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures and/or anesthesia interview as applicable.
  • Gives injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
  • May transport specimens.
  • May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow up appointments.
  • May maintain patient files, records, and other information including entry of data into electronic medical record.
  • May provide phone screening of the patient to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.
  • Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
  • Accredited Program Required: Medical Assistant or
  • Accredited Program Required: Medical Office Assistant that allows caregiver to sit for the MOA certification exam will be considered (e.g. associate degree in Allied Health) or
  • Apprenticeship Required: Medical Assistant

Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: experience in a medical office

Credentials
  • Required: National Medical Assistant Certification OREGON AND ALASKA REQUIREMENT ONLY: When referring to the National Certification requirement, the following are acceptable in meeting that requirement.   • Education: NHA CCMA certification fulfills the education requirement.
WASHINGTON:
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
OREGON WEST NETWORK - SHMC Anesthesia Clinic:
  • Does not perform Essential Functions 3, 4, 5 or 8 above.
  • May provide phone screening of patient to obtain general admission history, medication reconciliation, and schedule appointment for clinic visit.
  • Minimum of two years post certification experience in a medical office and/or a minimum of two years' experience in surgical offices required.
OREGON WEST NETWORK - SHMC Hyperbaric Center:
  • Requires pushing and pulling patients on gurneys into and out of hyperbaric chambers.
PHMG - Primary Care Medical Home:
  • Uses decision support functions of EHR in tandem with standing order/protocols to manage patient populations.
  • Assists provider in documenting details of patient encounter, order tests and referrals.
PHMG - V Trauma SW:
  • Manages providers' schedules for call shifts, clinic times and meetings.
  • Arrange cases and clinic appointments to assure maximum effectiveness of surgeon and PA.
  • Schedules post-op and follow-ups for surgical and trauma patients.
  • Completes surgery scheduling process by coordinating patient, surgery department and provider coordination of care between specialties.
  • Bills for trauma and acute care surgery.
  • Assist in seamless care of patient from discharge through recovery.
PIMC:
  • Performs environmental services, security assistance and emergency response duties as needed.
  • Requires BART training (de-escalation training) within 30 days of hire.
LCR Sleep:
  • DME Facilitation - mask fitting, PAP pressure changes, troubleshooting, scheduling, etc.
WHATCOM - Hospice House:
  • Food Handler's Permit is required.
PHMG Vancouver Endoscopy:
  • Scope Processing: Will be trained and signed-off for competency prior to being assigned.
PHMG At Home Visit Program - BELLINGHAM, WA
  • Valid driver's license (OR, WA or AK as applicable) and proof of auto insurance required.

Working Conditions
Lifting
  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
Mental/Visual
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
