We leverage AI to enhance productivity and testing efforts, ensuring we maintain quality at a pace that fits our rapidly changing world. Our team is situated across various global locations, working collaboratively to develop next-generation solutions.
Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Test Automation Engineer Co-op to join our System Test team supporting Operator, our cloud-native security incident management platform. In this role, you will assist in designing and implementing automated tests, develop device simulators, and gain hands-on experience using AI tools to support development and testing. A unique and exciting aspect of this role is the opportunity to directly test physical hardware integrations, specifically live cameras and access control systems, within a modern cloud application.

Working closely with senior engineers and the broader test team, you will learn what it takes to ensure our products meet the strict quality standards our customers rely on for critical security operations. You will gain practical exposure to analyzing requirements, integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines, and executing test runs.
Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud & Hardware Testing: Assist in developing and executing automated and manual tests bridging software and hardware, specifically focusing on how cameras, doors, and access control systems interact seamlessly within our cloud-native application.
  • Device Simulation: Help build and maintain software-based device simulators (such as camera simulators) to mock physical hardware behaviors, allowing the team to effectively and reliably test cloud application features at scale.
  • Requirements Analysis: Learn to analyze specifications and functional requirements alongside senior testers to identify candidates for automation versus manual execution.
  • Automation Framework Design: Contribute to scalable test automation frameworks using TypeScript and Playwright, supporting complex system features in a distributed SOC environment.
  • CI/CD & Execution: Gain hands-on experience monitoring and configuring GitHub Workflows for Continuous Integration (CI/CD), analyzing automated run results, and learning to log defects with technical precision.

Basic Requirements

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (ideally in your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year).
  • Foundational Knowledge: Solid academic or personal project experience in software development, scripting, or testing.
  • Programming Skills: Basic proficiency or strong foundational knowledge in TypeScript or Python for building automation scripts and simulators.
  • Version Control: Familiarity with Git version control (branching, committing, pull requests).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and an analytical mindset.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
  • Drive: A strong eagerness to learn new tools, frameworks, and test methodologies in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automation Exposure: Familiarity with or academic exposure to automation testing tools (especially Playwright) and design patterns (e.g., Page Object Model).
  • Mocking & Simulation: Basic understanding of how to mock data or simulate device endpoints for testing purposes.
  • CI/CD Knowledge: Basic understanding of Continuous Integration concepts or exposure to GitHub Workflows.
  • Agile Experience: Understanding of Agile development environments (Scrum/Kanban) and defect tracking tools like Jira.
  • Tech Interests: Curiosity about API testing (REST/GraphQL), containerization (Docker), and leveraging AI tools to enhance coding and testing productivity.
  • Industry Interest: An interest in security, surveillance, or physical access control systems.

Target Base Salary Range: 38,000 - 63,000 CAD
