Position: Portals Engagement and Data Specialist
Employment Type: Full Time 
Location: Falls Church, VA. (Remote within the Continental US but strong preference will be given to applicants located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.)

The Role: The Portals Engagement and Data Specialist will join a team implementing a data management, visualization, and collaboration platform serving the US government and its partners. The Portals Engagement and Data Specialist works closely with clients and colleagues to create and deliver data solutions to government clients. This position will use Tesla Government's platform to answer data structuring and visualization, knowledge management, and collaboration requirements. The Portal Engagement and Data Specialist will be expected to work with project leaders to refine client requirements, incorporate feedback, and provide flexible, living solutions that evolve as client missions do.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Maintaining Relationships 

    • Anticipate needs of major user groups and key stakeholders

    • Interact with government users in person, over the phone, and through email to build and maintain relationships

    • Provide virtual or in person briefings to users on key evolving topics or platform best practices

    • Identify, suggest, and execute key information-sharing initiatives that provide value to key government and military organizations

  • Data Formatting and Structuring

    • Take disparate data and find common themes that add coherence and organization. 

    • Lead data mapping initiatives, whether the data is demographic, financial, legal, geographic, or category-based.

    • Build data structures to client requirements and that feed client workflows.

    • Connect multiple independent datastreams to build unified datasets. 

  • Data Visualization

    • Use data visualization tools to create visualizations that display client data in appropriate and innovative ways. 

    • Ensure visualizations help clients achieve their missions and provide relevant, actionable insights from their data.

  • Knowledge Management

    • Become an expert at organizing, ingesting, and presenting complex data to make it easily digestible for clients.  

    • Use knowledge management expertise to create solutions for organizing large spreadsheets and large sets of files.

  • Content Creation

    • Create web-based content using Tesla’s content management system, and design creative ways to display information in text and visualizations.

    • Help clients make clean and discoverable content on Tesla’s platform.

  • Client Interaction

    • Act as a subject matter expert on data management and visualization questions, and provide technical expertise to clients.

    • Support business development initiatives by brainstorming solutions for data management problems

  • Business Development

    • Participate in efforts to grow Tesla’s business

A Successful Content Data Specialist Looks like:

  • Meeting deadlines across multiple simultaneous projects, and flexibility to jump between tasks as necessary

  • Independently building and maintaining user relationships through cold and warm outreach, calls, and trainings

  • Willing to learn various computer- and web-based applications

  • Organizing complex information in an easily understandable way

  • Expanding the “art of the possible” within Tesla’s data visualization tools

Required Qualifications:

  • US citizen

  • Advanced scripting for data cleaning (Python, Javascript, R, or others)

  • 0-2 years of experience with and knowledge of data management, querying, and presentation tools (Examples: Excel, Google Sheets, Tableau Prep, SQL)

  • Data science and/or visualization experience

  • Client-side experience, including taking meeting minutes, tracking due-outs, and planning meeting follow-ups

  • Government experience or exposure to government agencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS/MS in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, or similar relevant field

Compensation: The expected initial salary for this role is $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, certifications, geographic location, and organizational needs. Individual compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
