Psychiatrist III

Location: Terrell, TX. Facility: Terrell Center for Youth.

Overview

Psychiatrist III provides highly advanced psychiatric assessment and treatment, working under the State Hospital Medical Director. Responsibilities include diagnostic evaluation, medication management, interprofessional collaboration, data review, and participation in committees and quality improvement initiatives.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments and administer treatments and medications per State Hospital policies.
  • Establish and maintain physicianโ€‘patient relationships via faceโ€‘toโ€‘face or telemedicine.
  • Develop individualized psychiatric recovery plans, integrating interdisciplinary supports.
  • Perform medication reviews, audits, and laboratory monitoring; record deliberations in EHR.
  • Lead and facilitate staff meetings, recovery team discussions, and performance improvement reviews per TJC, CMS, TAC, and State regulations.
  • Participate in or direct clinically relevant committees and provide guidance on acute psychiatric care, restraints, and emergency medication orders.
  • Ensure collaboration between psychiatry and neurology for dually diagnosed patients.
  • Monitor system data and trends, propose enhancements to recovery plans, and drive quality initiatives.
  • Maintain open communication with Medical Director, Superintendent, and other staff to ensure continuity of services.
  • Conduct or manage training and compliance with HHSC policies, HIPAA, and TJC standards.
  • Supervise, mentor, or provide feedback to other staff as organizational structure permits.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general medicine and general psychiatry practices.
  • Knowledge of personโ€‘centered care, recovery plans, and state formulary guidelines.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records, Microsoft Office, and psychiatric diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to assess, diagnose, prescribe, and supervise treatment within local policy and Texas laws.
  • Ability to interpret diagnoses, develop policies, prepare medical histories, and manage polypharmacy.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, facilitate quality improvement, and plan/supervise work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Licensure and Certification

Must possess an unrestricted Texas medical license and be board certified or board eligible (completed residency in psychiatry) before start date.

Initial Screening Criteria
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).
  • Minimum three years of experience as a psychiatrist (preferred).
  • Minimum twelve months experience with individuals with psychiatric disorders (preferred).
Additional Information
  • Background checks include fingerprint criminal, drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, etc.).
  • Minimum age 18; applicants for Terrell Center for Youth must be 21.
  • Possibility for overtime and extended hours; flexibility may be required.
  • Compliance with HHSC immunization policy is required.
