What is a tensor?

A Tensor job typically refers to a role involving tensors, which are mathematical objects used in machine learning, AI, and scientific computing. These jobs often require expertise in deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, where tensors represent multi-dimensional arrays for data processing. A Tensor job can involve designing and optimizing neural networks, performing large-scale data analysis, or working with high-performance computing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tensor?

I'm sorry, but 'Tensor' is not recognized as a real-world professional occupation.

What are some common challenges faced by TensorFlow developers when working on large-scale machine learning projects?

TensorFlow Developers often encounter challenges such as optimizing model performance for large datasets, managing distributed training across multiple GPUs or TPUs, and ensuring reproducibility of experiments. Collaboration with data engineers and DevOps teams is essential to streamline data pipelines and deployment workflows. Staying up to date with frequent updates in the TensorFlow ecosystem and best practices for model optimization is also crucial for success in this role.

What is the difference between Tensor vs Data Scientist?

AspectTensorData Scientist
Required CredentialsKnowledge of machine learning, programming skills, often a degree in computer science or related fieldsDegree in statistics, computer science, or related fields; strong analytical skills
Work EnvironmentTech companies, AI research labs, software development teamsBusiness, finance, healthcare, and tech industries analyzing data to inform decisions
Industry UsagePrimarily in AI, machine learning, and deep learning projectsAcross industries for data analysis, predictive modeling, and insights

While a Tensor is a fundamental data structure used in machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, a Data Scientist analyzes data to extract insights and build models. Tensors are tools that Data Scientists often work with, but they are not roles themselves. Understanding tensors is essential for Data Scientists involved in AI and machine learning projects.

Job description

Tensor is an American Physical AI company dedicated to building agentic products that empower people. Our flagship product, the Tensor Robocar, is the world’s first personal Robocar and the first AI agentic vehicle — fully autonomous, automotive-grade, and built for private ownership at scale. Founded in 2016 in Silicon Valley, Tensor is headquartered in San Jose, California, with offices in Barcelona, Singapore, and Dubai. At Tensor, we champion personal AI autonomy and ownership. Our vision is to build a future where everyone owns their own Artificial General Intelligence — a personal AGI that enables more time, freedom, and autonomy. We’re forging an alternative path where AGI serves only you, and is controlled solely by you.
We provide a competitive compensation package, opportunities for professional growth, participation in a discretionary equity incentive plan, and access to a comprehensive company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
Join us to shape the future! Work with brilliant minds on technology transforming automotive industry and make a lasting impact.

We are seeking an FP&A Manager to build the company's planning function. You will own the long-range operating model that underpins fundraising, board, and investor materials — it must be rigorous, defensible, and consistent — and convert that model into the budgeting, forecasting, and management-reporting rhythm of an institutional-grade finance organization. This role also owns near-term treasury/cash forecasting until a dedicated function is built.

Locations
  • San Jose, California, US (Salary Range: $75k—$350k USD)
Responsibilities
  • Own the integrated long-range financial model (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow): unit economics, production ramp, capex, and liquidity runway, with documented assumptions and scenario/sensitivity analysis.
  • Support financing and strategic workstreams: projections and diligence responses for investors, lenders, and advisors, and board materials — with full consistency across all versions.
  • Stand up the corporate planning calendar: annual operating plan, quarterly reforecasts, and rolling cash forecasts, with department-level budgets and named budget owners.
  • Deliver monthly management reporting: budget-vs-actual variance analysis with accounting, KPI dashboards, and clear narratives for the executive team and board.
  • Build a disciplined forecasting and metrics framework to support reporting on external timelines.
  • Instill spend discipline: partner with budget owners on headcount and purchase approvals, and connect the PO process to budget checks.
  • Own capex planning and program-level cost tracking for vehicle, manufacturing, and infrastructure investments; own near-term cash forecasting and treasury support.
  • Implement a planning system (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan, Pigment) and management-reporting stack connected to the ERP.
  • Build and lead a small FP&A team over time.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
  • 8+ years of FP&A experience with increasing scope, ideally spanning investment banking/consulting and corporate FP&A.
  • Experience supporting fundraising or strategic transactions: building models used by external investors and withstanding diligence.
  • Expert three-statement financial modeling; strong command of unit economics for hardware/manufacturing businesses.
  • Experience building the FP&A function, calendar, and tooling from an early stage.
  • Executive-level communication: able to distill complexity into clear board and investor narratives.
  • High integrity around projections: rigorous versioning, assumptions documentation, and consistency control.
Preferences
  • Automotive, EV, robotics, or capital-intensive hardware experience with production-ramp modeling.
  • MBA or CFA.
  • Experience supporting a company through public-company readiness and external guidance/metrics.
  • Planning-tool implementation experience (Adaptive, Anaplan, Pigment).
