Job description

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland's most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It's like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC's 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.
Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.
The Role
The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Tennis Office Attendant. This Attendant will play an important role in creating a welcoming, organized, and engaging experience for MAC members and guests. This position supports the daily operations of the Tennis Department by maintaining the Tennis Office, assisting members and tennis professionals, coordinating administrative tasks, and providing racquet stringing and equipment support. The ideal candidate brings a passion for tennis, exceptional customer service skills, and a proactive approach to supporting a vibrant tennis community.
This position requires availability during evenings and weekends and is based in a dynamic office and tennis court environment.
What You'll Do
  • Deliver exceptional service to members and guests, both in person and over the phone.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and overall presentation of the Tennis Office.
  • Support the Tennis Manager and Tennis Coaches with administrative functions, including:
    • Team result reporting
    • Data entry
    • Member communications
    • Maintenance requests
  • Monitor court reservations, court usage, and no-shows.
  • String and regrip tennis racquets while maintaining quality and consistency standards.
  • Test, sort, and manage tennis ball inventory.
  • Assist members with tennis ball machine operation and basic troubleshooting.
  • Support tennis events, socials, leagues, and other departmental programs.
  • Assist with USTA League matches, ensuring courts are prepared and matches begin on time.
  • Process sales of tennis balls, merchandise, and related tennis products.
  • Help ensure lessons, classes, and programs are accurately tracked and supported.
  • Periodically review Tennis Department web content and communicate issues or updates.
  • Participate in departmental and club-wide training opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring
  • Passion for tennis and a strong understanding of the game, including scoring, strokes, and general rules.
  • Experience stringing and regripping tennis racquets, or the ability to learn quickly.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with a professional, friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with members, guests, and coworkers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn department software systems.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures and guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and other nontraditional hours as needed.
  • Physical ability to bend, twist, climb stairs, sit for extended periods, and regularly lift up to 20 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or currently within one year of completion.
  • Competitive tennis experience, including tournament play.
  • High school or collegiate team tennis experience preferred.
  • Previous customer service, recreation, sports, or club environment experience is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members, guests, and staff in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Gain
At Multnomah Athletic Club, we believe in taking care of our team members. We offer a wide range of benefits to ensure your well-being, both inside and outside the club. Here's what's in it for you:
  • Full-time employees: Enjoy medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Convenience: Free parking and discounted public transportation passes.
  • Retirement: Participate in our 401(k) program with an employer match.
