Responsibilities
  • Assists in the diagnoses and therapeutic management of patients under the supervision of a physician
  • Organizes and presents patient data to the supervising physician(s) to include recommendations for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens as determined by patients’ needs using applicable medical and surgical equipment
  • Issues diagnostic and therapeutic orders including orders for approved drugs following applicable guidelines
  • Provides instructions and guidance regarding health care and medical therapy to patients, family members and significant others
  • Performs complete, detailed and accurate health histories and reviews patient records; orders appropriate laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies
  • Performs comprehensive physical examinations and assessments and records pertinent data in appropriate electronic health record
  • Formulates medical and nursing diagnoses and institutes appropriate therapies or referrals of patients to appropriate health care facilities, agencies, physicians, or other resources in the community
  • Plans and initiates a therapeutic regimen which includes ordering drugs, medical devices, and nutrition and supportive services
  • Interprets and analyzes patient data to determine patient management and treatment
  • Administers injections and dispenses medications
  • Troubleshoots issues with NextGen, the electronic health record system
  • Creates and edits documents within NextGen
  • Serves as NextGen instructor for new providers
  • Prepares reports as needed
  • Serves on various committees and Quality Improvement teams
  • Increase our ability to evaluate general urology patient problems: the demand of the the service has been steadily and sharply increasing.
  • Perform out-patient pediatric urology evaluations and which has a strong and growing demand.
  • Knowledgeable about urology medications
  • Evaluate new general urology patients
  • See follow up patients from hospital in the clinic setting
  • Take patients calls and discuss results
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama Required
  • Completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program Required
  • NPC - Certified Nurse Practitioner Certification as a nurse practitioner Required and
  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner Licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner Required and
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Licensure with the state of Alabama as a registered nurse Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
