Job Overview

The Class A CDL Laborer will participate in a variety of construction projects related to underground utility maintenance and follow construction plans and instructions from the site Foreman and Supervisor. This role will also transport materials to job sites in Class A type vehicles. This position requires the Laborer to work effectively as part of a team, enjoy working outdoors, and perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Site Preparation: Prepare construction sites by clearing obstacles and ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Material Handling: Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment necessary for construction tasks.
  • Site Clean-Up: Remove debris and garbage from work sites and assist in restoration efforts post-construction.
  • Temporary Structures: Assemble and break down barricades and other temporary structures as needed.
  • Commercial Vehicle Operation: Upon qualifying for a DOT Medical Card, assist with and operate commercial vehicles and trailers over 10,000 lbs. For combinations over 26,000 lbs, maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement, following FMCSA/DOT guidelines.
  • Traffic Regulation: Regulate traffic flow and erect traffic signs in accordance with MUTCD guidelines to ensure safety around the construction site.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety standards, specifically OSHA 1926 Construction Safety regulations.
  • Excavation Work: Perform digging potholes, trenching, and other underground excavation work as required for utility maintenance.

Minimum Skills & Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED required plus 2 years of experience.
  • Class A CDL License with a valid DOT Medical Card.
  • Able to read, understand, and follow standard operating procedures for the operation of projects and associated equipment.
  • Basic computer operation and data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication, time management, multi-tasking, and problem skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 2-4+ years of experience in construction or underground utility maintenance.
  • Familiarity with operating construction tools and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of site preparation and excavation techniques.
  • Possession or ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card.
  • CDL with tanker endorsement (or willingness to obtain) for operating larger commercial vehicle combinations.
  • Knowledge of traffic regulation and safety standards (MUTCD).
  • Understanding of and compliance with OSHA 1926 Construction Safety standards.
