ABOUT THE JCC OF GREATER ROCHESTER

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester is located alongside the Erie Canal in Brighton and is a 200,000 square foot facility that houses our state-of-the-art fitness, wellness and recreation programming, an aquatics center, a Professional Theatre (live stream), Children’s Center and our Premier Camping Program! We pride ourselves on providing our members with quality educational, cultural arts and social programming, and we are an inclusive community center that welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds, and ages.

Campers in Grades K–10 enjoy full days filled with swimming, outdoor adventures, creative arts, music and drama, sports, and hands-on activities that inspire confidence and curiosity. Each week brings new experiences, including climbing to new heights on the ropes course and soaring across the zipline, along with plenty of time to play, create, and relax with friends in a supportive community. Families can choose the weeks that fit their schedule while campers enjoy a fun, engaging, and memorable summer.

As a Camp Counselor, you’ll help create an engaging, safe, and supportive camp experience for children in grades K–10. Camp staff lead group activities, promote social-emotional learning, and serve as role models throughout the camp day.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise and engage with campers in daily camp activities.
  • Build positive relationships and foster a sense of community within your group.
  • Promote and maintain physical and emotional safety for all campers.
  • Lead or assist with swimming time, games, art, sports, nature, and special events.
  • Help manage group transitions, behavior, and participation.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff and specialists to support camp programming.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of camp spaces and materials.
  • Communicate clearly with campers, staff, and families as needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required training and staff meetings.
  • Follow all camp policies, procedures, and health/safety protocols.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (training available).
