Job Title: Mainframe ETL Data Analyst – (VSAM, Cobol, ETL, DataStage, DB2)
Location: Brooklyn, NY (Must be LOCAL - Hybrid)
Duration: 12 Months (with potential for extension)
Start Date: October 1, 2026 (anticipated)
W2 Hourly Rate: $75 - $85/hour

Overview:
We are seeking a Mainframe ETL Data Analyst who will support our NYS client. This role will provide technical expertise for data profiling, cleansing, source-to-target mapping, conversion, migration, and validation activities supporting a legacy replacement initiative and ongoing process improvement programs. The consultant will analyze VSAM and COBOL-based source data, map it into relational and dimensional SQL structures, maintain the master data dictionary, and support the design and validation of mission-critical data solutions.
Duties:
  • Perform detailed field-level analysis, metadata analysis, data profiling, cleansing, and source-to-target mapping for legacy replacement and process improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze and map VSAM files and legacy data structures into relational and dimensional SQL database tables.
  • Develop and maintain source-to-target mapping documents, the master data dictionary, business terms, valid values, definitions, and related metadata documentation.
  • Design, develop, and support IBM DataStage ETL processes for data extraction, transformation, conversion, migration, and validation.
  • Extract field references, calculated data, and business rules from COBOL programs and other legacy application code.
  • Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data validation routines based on source-to-target mappings and target data models.
  • Develop and maintain SSRS reports and support database design and component inventory for mission-critical applications.
  • Work across IBM Mainframe, Windows Server, and SQL Server environments using COBOL, CICS, DB2, Control-M, and Git.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements, recommend solutions aligned with team methodology, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with project stakeholders.

Mandatory Qualifications:
  • 5+ years’ experience of source-to-target data mapping experience in mixed mainframe and relational database environments.
  • 3+ years’ experience developing ETL applications using IBM DataStage.
  • 3+ years’ experience with pension administration systems.
  • Experience creating data dictionary documentation that includes business terms, valid values, and definitions.
  • Experience converting and migrating VSAM data to relational and dimensional SQL distributed databases.
  • Experience extracting field references and calculated data from COBOL programs.
  • Experience with BMC Control-M workload automation software and Git version control software.
  • Strong SQL expertise, including complex queries, stored procedures, and data validations based on source-to-target mappings and target data models.
  • Proficiency in SSRS report development.
  • Ability to work across IBM Mainframe, Windows Server, and SQL Server environments.
  • Proficiency with mainframe applications and technologies including COBOL, CICS, and DB2.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and their relationship to ETL applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, requirements analysis, information-gathering, and technical troubleshooting skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience extracting business rules from existing legacy code.
  • Experience with data quality and data profiling tools.
  • Experience with data warehouses and data marts.
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Prior experience supporting a pension system, preferably a New York State or New York City pension system.
