Position Summary
The Physical Education Non-Professional (PENP) program in the Department of Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences at UNM is seeking candidates for temporary, part-time faculty to teach undergraduate level physical activity-, exercise-, and/or wellness-related courses. This posting will remain open and applicants will be selected as needed per semester. Some of the more specialized courses for which temporary part-time instructors are often recruited include various group fitness classes including, but not limited to: Dance, Zumba, Volleyball, Various Team Sports, Yoga, Stretch and Relax, Tai Chi, Conditioning, Aerobics, Martial Arts, Running, Outdoor Experience, Basketball, Swimming, Rock Climbing, Pilates (see the UNM Course Catalog for more details). Candidates should indicate in their cover letter in which area of expertise their experience lies. Candidates may also indicate potential new courses in their cover letter should their education and credentials provide sufficient support.
This is a continuous posting for the Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 semesters. For best consideration dates:
August 2, 2024 for Fall Semester 2024
September 13, 2024 for Spring Semester 2025
February 1, 2025 for Summer Semester 2025
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge, skills, and abilities in area of expertise, along with leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, fitness management, or related degree. Appropriate activity certification, as needed (see application instructions). American Red Cross CPR/Basic Life Support certification (can also be earned within 30 days of employment). Teaching experience preferred.

All These factors are: 1. An Associate or Baccalaureate degree in physical education or related field;2. Certification and/or advanced achievement in the content area and/or as a health fitness instructor from a credible national organization, board or accrediting body;3. Professional performance, honors, awards, or significant recognition that indicates the individual's level of discipline-based content knowledge; or4. Other demonstrated competencies and achievements relevant to the content of the course.
Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
