Temporary Stone Cnc Operator information

What is a temporary stone CNC operator?

A Temporary Stone CNC Operator is a worker hired for a limited period to operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines that cut, shape, and finish stone materials such as granite, marble, or quartz. Their main responsibilities include setting up the CNC machine, loading stone slabs, interpreting blueprints, and ensuring the accurate execution of programmed designs. Temporary operators often work during periods of increased demand or to cover permanent staff absences. They must follow strict safety procedures and maintain the equipment to prevent damage and ensure quality output.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary stone CNC operator?

To thrive as a Temporary Stone CNC Operator, you need experience in CNC machinery operation, basic math skills, and knowledge of stone materials, often supported by a high school diploma or technical certification. Familiarity with CNC programming software such as AutoCAD or Mastercam and the ability to read technical drawings are typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These skills ensure precise fabrication, safe machine operation, and efficient workflow in a manufacturing environment.

What are the typical challenges faced by a temporary stone CNC operator when adapting to different projects or machines?

As a Temporary Stone CNC Operator, you may encounter challenges such as quickly learning the specifications of different machines and adjusting to varying project requirements. Each assignment might involve unique stone types, tool setups, or software interfaces, requiring adaptability and attention to detail. Effective communication with team members and supervisors is crucial to ensure project goals are met and safety standards are maintained. Staying organized and asking questions early can help smooth the transition between projects and minimize errors.

What is the difference between Temporary Stone Cnc Operator vs Stone Fabricator?

AspectTemporary Stone Cnc OperatorStone Fabricator
CredentialsBasic CNC operation training, safety certificationsTrade school or apprenticeship, safety certifications
Work EnvironmentManufacturing or fabrication shops, CNC machineryWorkshop or fabrication site, manual and machine work
Industry UsageUsed in industries requiring precise stone cutting via CNCInvolved in shaping, finishing, and installing stone products

While both roles work within stone fabrication, the Temporary Stone Cnc Operator specializes in operating CNC machines for precise cuts, often on a temporary basis, whereas the Stone Fabricator handles broader tasks like shaping and finishing stone manually or with machines. The CNC operator focuses on machine operation, requiring specific training, while the fabricator's role is more manual and craft-oriented.

Where do Temporary Stone CNC operators make the most money?

Temporary Stone CNC operators tend to earn higher wages in regions with a strong manufacturing or construction industry, especially where specialized skills like CNC programming and stone fabrication are in demand. Wages are also influenced by experience, certifications, and the complexity of the equipment used, with higher pay often found in areas with a higher cost of living or industrial activity.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate and program two BACA RSJ robotic sawjets to cut jobs accurately according to shop tickets, drawings, and digital files

  • Load and unload slabs and countertops safely, including use of an overhead crane

  • Perform routine maintenance on the machine and high-pressure water system, and troubleshoot mechanical issues before they cause downtime

Job description

BACA CNC Sawjet Operator

Solon, Ohio | Full-Time, Hourly | $28–$30/hr

Are you an experienced BACA Sawjet Operator? If so, this position is for you! We are looking for someone who can run and maintain our robotic RSJ CNC sawjets in an established stone fabrication production environment. This is a hands-on role for someone who already knows their way around a Baca machine and wants genuine ownership over programming, operation, quality, and machine condition - not another training assignment.

If you're a stone industry professional who takes pride in precision cutting, wants a stable, long-term home for your skills, and is ready to be treated as the SawJet expert on the floor, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Do:

  • Operate and program two BACA RSJ robotic sawjets to cut jobs accurately according to shop tickets, drawings, and digital files
  • Load and unload slabs and countertops safely, including use of an overhead crane
  • Monitor cut quality and minimize recuts or damaged pieces
  • Perform routine maintenance on the machine and high-pressure water system, and troubleshoot mechanical issues before they cause downtime
  • Properly label, organize, and stage finished pieces
  • Keep the machine and surrounding work area clean and organized
  • Communicate production or equipment issues promptly to management
  • Assist other departments as needed and work safely in a wet, loud industrial environment

What You Bring (Required):

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience operating a Baca robotic RSJ CNC sawjet
  • Proven ability to program jobs, load/unload material, monitor quality, and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work and handle stone safely
  • Comfortable working in a wet, loud industrial environment
  • Must live within 45 minutes of Solon, Ohio 44139
  • Candidates must come from the stone industry with direct sawjet experience

Nice to Have (Preferred):

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read shop tickets, measurements, drawings, digital files, and maintenance procedures
  • Dependable attendance and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

What Makes This Role Different -

  • A position built specifically around your SawJet expertise - not a generalist warehouse job
  • Genuine ownership of programming, operation, quality, and machine condition
  • Autonomy to troubleshoot problems and recommend improvements
  • Direct communication with management about equipment and production needs
  • Immediate, visible impact on daily production
  • Pay that recognizes your prior SawJet experience
  • Long-term opportunity to become the trusted SawJet equipment specialist
  • Stability without asking you to walk away from the hands-on work you do best

Compensation & Benefits -

  • $28–$30 per hour, based on experience
  • Average 43.5 hours/week
  • Medical and other insurance options
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • 401(k)

Come join our team! We are an established stone fabrication production shop in Solon, Ohio, built on Customer Commitment, Teamwork, Integrity, Accountability, and Respect. We're looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined, and accountable teammate who takes ownership of their machine and their work.

Ready to put your SawJet experience to work somewhere it's genuinely valued? Apply today.
