Job Overview

The Sports Medicine Center at Children's Hospital Colorado leads the region in state-of-the-art treatment for young athletes. Our fully integrated team of sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and pediatric specialists delivers care geared exclusively toward growing bodies. Physical therapists on this team are experts in evaluation and treatment of adolescent athletes who are returning to high levels of activity. Clinicians treat in our sports medicine dedicated gyms where patient population is typically aged 12-20 and made up of various operative and non-operative diagnoses specific to the young athlete. Experience in movement analysis, advanced exercise progression, and return to sport decision making for the performing artist is essential. Clinicians are also expected to communicate with physicians, parents, coaches or instructors, athletic trainers, and performance coaches as needed to maximize rehabilitation opportunities and set expectations for key people involved in the athlete's return. This program has a strong emphasis in evidence-based practice, research initiatives, community outreach and professional growth and collaborates frequently across our six locations.

The Physical Therapist I provide physical therapy services including evaluation, treatment and follow up and documentation using general competencies for inpatient and outpatient children referred to the physical therapy department. Provide supervision for PT aides/assistants and students with specific tasks and/or patients. Provide continuous consultation and education to families. The Physical Therapist I is an entry level position in a Career Advancement Program (CAP).

The right fit for our team is a physical therapist who is passionate about sports medicine with experience and a clinical emphasis on treating athletes in the performing arts. This role will work in our performing arts program with the expectation they work well in a multidisciplinary team setting and are committed to professional growth and development.

  • Location: South Sports
  • Job Details: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours/week - eligible for benefits (exempt)
  • Shift: Variable - 4x10 hour days or 5x8 hour days

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the family, physicians, schools, and other providers to ensure the continuum of care for the child and optimal clinical services. Provides consultation and education to other professionals and families as necessary.
  • Completes written documentation in accordance with department standards for format, location, and time frames.
  • Independently evaluates patients with a variety of diagnosis, in specialized programs, on inpatient and/or outpatient units. Incorporates principles of cultural-competence and family-centered care into clinical services.
  • Assists in achieving departmental financial budget targets.
  • Demonstrates leadership and participates in systematic, planned professional development to improve the clinical, educational, research, and advocacy goals of the department and hospital.
  • Provides consultation and education to families.
  • Treat children across the continuum, with a variety of diagnoses, in specialized programs on inpatient and outpatient units and in the community. Incorporates principles of cultural-competence and family-centered care into clinical services. Seeks out appropriate mentoring/training and consults with relative Program Coordinator and/or assigned mentor for complex patient diagnoses.

Minimum Qualifications

    • Two years of professional experience as a physical therapist strongly preferred. Adolescent sports medicine experience required; experience in treating performing arts athletes preferred.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Basic Life Support required
    • Physical Therapist required
    • OCS or SCS preferred
  • Additional Requirements
    • License required after hire Credentialing must be completed by the Medical Staff Office (MSO) within 3 months of employment.


Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $78,659.24 to $117,988.86
