Air Temp Mechanical Services, a PremiStar company, is seeking an experienced Commercial Mechanical Estimator or Project Manager to join our growing preconstruction team in Berlin, Connecticut.


In this role, you'll estimate a wide variety of commercial HVAC and plumbing projects ranging from tenant improvements and equipment replacements to complex ground-up construction. Whether you've built your career as a dedicated estimator or you're an experienced commercial Project Manager who regularly develops project budgets, pricing, and proposals, we'd love to speak with you.

What You'll Do

As a Commercial Mechanical Estimator / Project Manager, you'll help lead the estimating process from initial bid review through project turnover.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates for commercial HVAC and plumbing construction projects.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Develop budgets and pricing for negotiated work, design-build projects, and change orders.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor proposals.
  • Identify project risks and develop competitive pricing strategies.
  • Recommend value engineering opportunities while protecting project profitability.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, and scope reviews.
  • Assist with proposal development and bid submissions.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to construction.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical costs, and current market pricing.
  • Track labor trends, material pricing, and industry conditions.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical construction.
  • Previous experience as a Commercial Estimator, Project Manager, or a similar role with estimating responsibilities.
  • Experience preparing project estimates, budgets, proposals, or change orders.
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC and/or plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing complete project estimates.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and priorities simultaneously.

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Trimble AutoBid
  • Procore
  • Sage Estimating
  • PlanSwift
  • On-Screen Takeoff
  • BIM/CAD Software
  • Primavera P6
  • Microsoft Excel

A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
