Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.\r\n\r\n\r\nSupplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed supplemental questionnaire must be submitted with each application. \r\n\r\n\r\nABOUT THE ALAMEDA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE\r\n\r\nThe Alameda County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for its law enforcement services, its Regional Training Center, and its Dispatch Unit; the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board for its Crime Lab; the Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board for its Explosive Ordinance Unit. Additionally, the agency's health care provider, Wellpath, has experience working with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Sheriff's Office has a current budget of approximately $600 million and has over 1600 authorized positions, including in excess of 1000 sworn personnel. The agency's Chief Executive Officer is Sheriff / Coroner Yesenia L. Sanchez, who is assisted in the operation of the agency by Undersheriff April Luckett-Fahimi, Assistant Sheriffs Daniel McNaughton and Pace Stokes.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Sheriff of Alameda County is responsible for a vast array of tasks and duties, including the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Providing security to the Consolidated Superior Courts\r\n Operating the Coroner's Bureau\r\n Operating full-service criminalistics laboratory\r\n Performing Civil Process\r\n Operating a County Jail (Santa Rita)\r\n Operating the County Office of Emergency Services\r\n Providing patrol and investigative services to the unincorporated areas of Alameda County\r\n Pursuant to contractual agreements, providing patrol and investigative services to the City of Dublin, Oakland International Airport, Highland County Hospital, Social Services, and to the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District\r\n Conducting a basic academy pursuant to Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements. [Sheriff's Academy website]\r\n Providing Fish and Game enforcement\r\n Project Director of the Narcotics Task Force\r\n Serving as the Executive Director of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force\r\n\r\n\r\nFor more detailed information about the agency, visit: Alameda County's Sheriff's Office.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nTHE POSITION\r\nUnder general direction, the Senior Crime Analyst performs a wide variety of professional and administrative complex research and analysis of criminal justice information and activities and assists in the coordination and utilization of police systems; plans, coordinates, and evaluates departmental programs; trains sworn personnel on crime analysis and criminal apprehension; provides training on the use of tracking systems; and supervises a small team of crime analyst staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EITHER I\r\nExperience:\r\n\r\n\r\nThe equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in the classification of Crime Analyst within the Alameda County classified service.\r\n\r\n\r\nOR II\r\nEducation:\r\n\r\n\r\nPossession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, criminal justice, forensic science, quantitative analysis, or a closely related field to the work.\r\n\r\n\r\nAND\r\nExperience:\r\n\r\n\r\nThe equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience involving crime data collection, statistical research, and analysis, and working with criminal intelligence automated systems design and implementation in a criminal justice, law enforcement, or military intelligence-related setting, one (1) year of which must be in a lead or senior capacity.\r\n\r\n\r\nSubstitution:\r\n\r\n\r\nAdditional experience as outlined in Pattern II above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. \r\nLicense/Certificate:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.\r\n A Department of Justice Crime and Intelligence Analysis certificate from an accredited college or university is desirable.\r\n\r\nSpecial Requirements:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Must pass a thorough background investigation.\r\n Employees must be willing to be on call.\r\n Employees may be required to work evening, night and rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays during emergency or critical incident situations, and may be called upon with short notice.\r\n\r\nNOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.\r\n

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:\r\n\r\n\r\nKnowledge of:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Microsoft Office Suite, such as Excel, PowerPoint, or similar programs.\r\n Methods and techniques used in researching, compiling, sorting, evaluating and analyzing statistical, theoretical, and factual criminal and offender information.\r\n Computer operations including proficiency in Windows, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and other geographic information systems, word processing, spreadsheet, statistical analysis, and database applications.\r\n Basic principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and development.\r\n Distinction between crime patterns, series, and trends.\r\n California Penal Code and California Vehicle Code.\r\n Business English and statistical mathematics.\r\n\r\n\r\nAbility to:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Understand relevant legal and ethical considerations in intelligence and crime analysis.\r\n Multi-task and operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.\r\n Work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment and effectively interface with various stakeholders, ranging from patrol detectives to command staff. \r\n Compose written reports demonstrating criminal trends and patterns that have developed.\r\n Communicate effectively both orally and in writing that includes making oral presentations.\r\n Analyze a variety of criminal information received from various sources and formulate theories regarding criminal trends, patterns, and perpetrators.\r\n Collect and evaluate criminal intelligence information to develop criteria to measure the reliability of such information.\r\n Read and interpret maps and other geographic information systems.\r\n\r\n\r\n

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:\r\n1) A review of applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those applicants who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.\r\n2) A review of supplemental questionnaires to select the best qualified applicants to continue in the process.\r\n3) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the applicant's final examination score.
