Position Summary
The Transportation Department at the College of Saint Benedict invites applications for a part-time temporary (0.144 FTE) position of Bus Driver.
The Bus Driver provides transportation for the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University (CSB and SJU) for academic and related purposes using cars, vans, and buses. Drivers must be able to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and occasional trips to the Twin Cities. This is a 9-month position with varying hours.
The Transportation Department's mission is to provide safe, friendly, courteous, prompt, and cost-effective transportation for students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities
Transportation
  • Provide transportation of passengers via car, van, bus for CSB and SJU for academic purposes.
  • Provide transportation to off-site student events which may include commute to Minneapolis/St. Paul or other regional areas.
  • Provide driver training for incoming drivers.
  • As essential staff, may be required to report for duty during campus closures or emergencies, at the discretion of the Director of Transportation.
  • Follow policies and procedures set forth by the CSB Transportation Department, College of Saint Benedict, and Saint John's University.

Preventative and General Maintenance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance during pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections helping to maintain all vehicles and equipment as needed or directed.
  • Inform and train all college employees, students, and faculty on the safe and proper use of college owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Test for the safe and proper operation of all vehicles and equipment after repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal transportation rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with all members of the college community.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform job functions safely, including completing required training and using personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must successfully complete a DOT physical. This position is also subject to DOT random drug and alcohol testing throughout employment.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of equipment and instruct others in their proper use.
  • Ability to tolerate and work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely with and/or around hazardous chemicals.

Travel Requirements:
  • Regular travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University.
  • Occasional travel to Twin Cities metro.

Miscellaneous:
Applicants must be able to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and physical, and will be subject to DOT random drug and alcohol testing during employment. They must obtain a Class B Minnesota Commercial Driver's License with a passenger endorsement and no air-brake restriction. A copy of the applicant's personal driving record must be provided at the time of the interview and will be reviewed annually.
