Work Shift:Wednesday - Sunday 12:30am to 9am

The Target Pay for this position is $27.31 an hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Histology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests.In addition, they preparesamples, set up instruments, runtestsinterpret,andreleasetestresults.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Embed samples by orientating tissues in molds and addingParafinwax

  • Provide qualityembedding,accurately embed a minimum of up to 60 blocks per hour, unloading Tissue Processer, scan barcoded cassette inAntrim fortheappropriate worklist

  • Maintain embedding station asrequiredper Standard Operating Procedure and accepted protocols

  • Meetminimumdepartmentproduction goals

  • Prioritize stat and manifest blocks

  • Reconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completed

  • Operate Roche Benchmark special stain instrument

  • Perform manual stains asrequired

  • Calibrate and run Quality Control on the machines andassistwith daily,weekly,and monthly maintenance of the machines.

  • Exercisesjudgment in evaluating and reporting results.

  • Report any technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor.

  • Crosstrainanddevelop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.

  • Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures

  • Maintains clean and organized workarea.Restockssupplies as needed.

  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation

  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalentrequired,B.S in Biology or Life Sciences preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up,running,and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments

  • Familiar with care and use of microtome, embedding stations and staining equipment

  • Willingness to perform detailed, repetitive tasks toestablishedbenchmarks

  • Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.

  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment

  • Attention to detailand organizedwith ability to multi-task in afast-pacedenvironment

  • Effective communication skills and ability to exchangeaccurateinformation.

  • Proficiencyin the English language which allows for participation in team meetings,accurateentry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Positive, can-do attitude

  • Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Stationary Position- must be able toremainin a stationary position for up to 2 hours

  • Constantlyoperatesa computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently

  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch

  • Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20lbs.

  • The ability toobservedetails at close range

  • Extended hours may be needed

  • Laboratoryenvironmentswith potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE

  • Work under close to moderate supervision
