Work Shift: Wednesday to Sunday 1am to 9:30am
Training Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 5:30pm
The Target Pay for this position is $27.31 an hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
Job Purpose/Overview
The Histology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests interpret, and release test results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Embed samples by orientating tissues in molds and adding Parafin wax
  • Provide quality embedding, accurately embed a minimum of up to 60 blocks per hour, unloading Tissue Processer, scan barcoded cassette in Antrim for the appropriate worklist
  • Maintain embedding station as required per Standard Operating Procedure and accepted protocols
  • Meet minimum department production goals
  • Prioritize stat and manifest blocks
  • Reconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completed
  • Operate Roche Benchmark special stain instrument
  • Perform manual stains as required
  • Calibrate and run Quality Control on the machines and assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the machines.
  • Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results.
  • Report any technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor.
  • Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
  • Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures
  • Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required, B.S in Biology or Life Sciences preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment
  • Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information.
  • Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office
Working Conditions
  • Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
  • May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • The ability to observe details at close range.
  • Extended hours may be needed
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE.
  • Work under close to moderate supervision
  • Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
