Job description

Job Title: Field Service Engineer
Location : Columbus, OH
Duration : Long term Contract
 
This role is for a Field Service Engineer who will work hands-on with electrical power distribution equipment. The job requires traveling to customer sites to install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical systems

What You Will Do
1. Install & Maintain Electrical Equipment
You will work on low-voltage electrical distribution gear, transformers, switchboards, and similar equipment. This includes:
Installing and setting up new units
Testing the equipment to ensure it works properly
Commissioning systems (making them fully operational)
Performing regular maintenance
Fixing issues or replacing faulty parts
2. Complete Documentation
You will write service reports after each job, complete test sheets, and keep track of tools and spare parts.
3. Follow Safety Rules
Electrical work is dangerous, so you must follow company safety policies and site-specific rules at all times.
4. Work with Different Teams
You will attend site meetings and work with Project Managers, contractors, and customer teams to keep everyone updated.
5. Provide Customer Support
You are the face of the company at job sites. You will answer customer questions, solve problems, and escalate technical issues if needed.
6. Improve Processes
You will look for ways to improve safety, the quality of work, and how efficiently jobs are completed.
What You Need
Education/Experience:
Either an associate degree in electrical power or 5+ years of hands-on experience (military or data center backgrounds are preferred).
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems
Experience with AC/DC power, power monitoring, and communication protocols
Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Skill in using electrical testing tools like multimeters and current meters
Knowledge of UL safety standards (UL67, 1008, 891, 1558, etc.)
Soft Skills:
Great communication with clients and internal teams
Ability to troubleshoot and work independently
Professional, reliable, and customer-focused
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Willing to travel 80–90% of the time
Able to work weekends, overtime, on-call, and respond to emergencies within 2 hours
