Job description

Job Title: RN – Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Department: Cardiovascular ICU
Job Type: Full-time | 36 hours/week | 12-hour shifts (3 days/week)​


Position overview

The Cardiovascular ICU Registered Nurse (CVICU RN) delivers high-acuity, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill patients with complex cardiac and vascular conditions. This role requires advanced monitoring, strong critical thinking, and close collaboration with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and the multidisciplinary ICU team to support patients through high-risk interventions and post-operative recovery.​


Key responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill CVICU patients, including those post–cardiac surgery, with acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, arrhythmias, or mechanical support devices (as applicable).​

  • Monitor and document patient responses to treatments and interventions, including vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, and cardiac rhythm trends in the electronic health record.​

  • Administer medications, IV infusions, vasoactive drips, anticoagulants, and blood products safely, titrating as ordered and following critical care and infusion pump best practices.​

  • Perform continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring using arterial lines, central venous catheters, and other invasive monitoring devices as appropriate.​

  • Assist physicians with examinations, bedside procedures, and management of devices such as chest tubes, temporary pacing wires, or other post-cardiac surgery equipment (unit-dependent).​

  • Educate patients and families on care plans, procedures, and discharge or step-down processes, providing clear explanations and emotional support.​

  • Delegate tasks appropriately to support staff while maintaining overall accountability for the plan of care and patient safety.​


Required qualifications & skills
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience; prior ICU or cardiovascular critical care experience strongly preferred.​

  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular and critical care nursing, including cardiac assessment, rhythm interpretation, and management of hemodynamic instability.​

  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate complex, rapidly changing patient care in a high-acuity environment.​

  • Active Oklahoma RN license or multistate Compact (eNLC) license.​

  • Current BLS and ACLS (AHA) certifications.​

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with the ability to function effectively under pressure and in urgent situations.​
