Position Summary
The Schisler Lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dedicated Laboratory Research Technician to support biomedical research on aging, genomics, and complex diseases using mouse models, human systems, and integrative approaches. The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate and support daily laboratory research activities and operations.
The successful candidate will assist with maintenance of critical research infrastructure, animal colony support, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining laboratory equipment (e.g., liquid nitrogen storage, CO incubators, freezers), assisting with mouse colony management (including genotyping, animal handling, euthanasia in accordance with IACUC protocols, and detailed record-keeping), and performing mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as PCR and sample preparation. Another primary component of this position is to support laboratory organization and research productivity by maintaining inventories, ordering supplies, organizing samples, assisting with experimental setup, and supporting data organization. The Laboratory Research Technician will also assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment and may provide guidance to students on laboratory procedures. The candidate must be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a research team and demonstrate strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Management Preferences
Recent experience with supporting biomedical research on aging, genomics, or complex disease using mouse models and human systems.
Recent experience maintaining critical lab infrastructure (liquid nitrogen storage, CO incubators, freezers) while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Recent experience assisting with mouse colony management, including genotyping, handling, or euthanasia (IACUC).
Recent experience performing mammalian cell culture or molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, sample preparation).
Recent experience maintaining lab inventories and supplies/organizing samples.
