Temporary Remote Rn information

What is a temporary remote RN?

Temporary Remote RNs are registered nurses who work remotely on a temporary or contract basis, often for healthcare organizations, telehealth providers, or staffing agencies. Their responsibilities include providing patient care, conducting virtual assessments, offering health education, and coordinating careβ€”primarily through phone or digital platforms. These roles are ideal for nurses seeking flexible schedules or short-term assignments, and they typically require an active RN license and experience in clinical practice. Temporary Remote RNs play a crucial role in expanding access to care, especially for patients in rural or underserved areas.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary remote RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Remote RN, you need a current RN license, solid clinical assessment abilities, and recent nursing experience. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and secure messaging systems is typically required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills help you deliver quality care and collaborate effectively while working remotely. These skills and qualifications are essential for ensuring patient safety, maintaining compliance, and providing effective care in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary remote RNs, and how can they be managed?

Temporary Remote RNs often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new healthcare systems, building rapport with patients virtually, and managing time efficiently without onsite supervision. To address these, it's important to familiarize yourself with the employer's electronic health record (EHR) system early, actively communicate with both patients and team members, and establish a structured daily routine. Proactively seeking support from supervisors and utilizing available training resources can also help streamline the transition and ensure a successful remote assignment.

Job description

Altro powers the next generation of wellness businesses with clinical infrastructure built for growth.
We're building a platform that enables wellness businesses to offer clinical services they currently can't provide on their own, including blood testing, prescriptions, and peptides, supervised by a clinical team. Think Shopify for wellness businesses.
The team behind Altro has done this before: Harvard Business School MBAs and a second-time founder, alongside operators and executives who've taken startups through exits as founding-team members. We're backed by top venture capital firms.
The tailwinds are massive: Peptides going mainstream, GLP-1s unlocking the category, the longevity movement in full swing, and AI unlocking what wasn't possible a year ago.
We're still early. Which means every hire matters. Join at the ground floor, work directly with the founders, and be part of something rare: a company at the intersection of a massive market shift and the moment when AI is reshaping what small teams can build.
What you'll do
You'll work alongside our COO to keep clinical ops humming. You won't own the function - you'll be the extra set of eyes and hands that makes sure nothing slips.
Specifically:
  1. Execute clinical protocols - follow established clinical workflows for order processing, patient communication, and care coordination. Flag deviations early and escalate appropriately.
  2. Manage the daily order queue - monitor at-risk orders, coordinate with labs and pharmacies to keep fulfillment moving, and escalate before delays occur.
  3. Handle asynchronous patient messaging and phone line - triage inbound patient messages and respond in a warm, clinically-sound voice. You know when to answer, when to escalate, and when to loop in a clinician.
  4. Support internal care coordination - serve as the connective tissue between clinical, fulfillment, and partner teams as needed to provide clinical clarifications. Keep handoffs clean and nothing falling through the cracks.

Requirements
Who we're looking for
  • Clinically fluent. MA, LVN/LPN, RN, or clinical coordinator background. You've reviewed scripts, handled patient comms, and know when to escalate.
  • 4+ years of clinical experience, including at least 1 year in a fully remote healthcare role with async patient communication.
  • Excellent written and spoken English - your tone and clarity matter. You'll be communicating directly with US-based patients and partners.
  • Reliable in morning ET hours. This is non-negotiable - please don't apply if you can't work mornings New York time on weekdays.
  • Comfortable with startup chaos. Tools change, processes are half-built, and you're fine with that. Bonus if you've worked at a concierge clinic, telehealth company, or DTC health startup.
  • Detail-oriented. You catch issues early and document as you go.

Compliance requirements
  • Must be based in and work from the United States
  • Willing to sign a BAA and complete a background check before starting
  • Prior HIPAA training, or willing to complete it before starting
  • All patient communication stays in company systems

Nice to have
  • Professional Spanish fluency (spoken and written) - we serve a Spanish-speaking patient population and this is a meaningful differentiator
  • Experience with EHRs, telehealth platforms, or pharmacy/lab portals
  • Background in functional/longevity medicine, peptides, or hormone optimization
  • Customer service experience at a high-touch consumer brand
  • Weekend availability

Benefits
Logistics
  • Location: US-based, remote
  • Hours: Approx. 30-35hrs/week, with morning availability Eastern Time required
  • Rate: $25-$40/hour, depending on experience
  • Classification: 1099 independent contractor
