They are seeking an experienced and client-focused Tax Manager / Senior Accountant to join their growing public accounting firm on eastern Long Island. You will lead tax strategy, ensure compliance, and oversee bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio of small business clients. The ideal candidate holds an active CPA or EA certification, has 5+ years of experience, and excels at mentoring junior staff and guiding local businesses through complex financial and tax landscapes.

NOTE: This a hybrid opportunity of three (3) days onsite at company HQ in Riverhead, Long Island, NY with two (2) days remote.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Preparation & Planning: Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local income tax returns (Individuals, Partnerships, S-Corps, and C-Corps).
  • Client Accounting & Advisory: Oversee month-end and year-end close activities, process journal entries, reconcile bank statements, and review financial statements for small business clients.
  • Strategic Tax Consulting: Provide proactive tax research and planning strategies designed to optimize tax efficiency and minimize liabilities for business owners.
  • Client Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for small business clients, answering tax queries, guiding financial decisions, and advising on recent tax law changes.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and review the work of staff accountants and bookkeepers, ensuring accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with GAAP.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, with a heavy emphasis on small business taxation and accounting.
  • Certifications: Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license or EA (Enrolled Agent) designation is required.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in cloud-based accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks Online).
  • Business Acumen: Strong understanding of small business operations, payroll processing, and financial forecasting.
