Job Description:
The College of the Arts (COTA) seeks a Communications Assistant to join our Strategic Communications team to support ongoing research projects and events, including but not limited to our Creative B summer program. The Communications Assistant will help us create clear and compelling communications, marketing materials, photo and video content for social media, and disseminate them across many information channels including newsletters, website copy, press releases, social media platforms, etc. This is a great opportunity for journalists, graphic designers, or business majors to get hands on experience as a communications specialist in the field.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Coordinate with the Strategic Events Manager on marketing and communication projects for Creative B and other research activities.

  • Conceptualize and develop content around Creative B college events by capturing photo and video for marketing efforts. This includes: behind-the-scenes work leading up to the event, day-of event footage/photography, and ideating and drafting ready-to-post materials (e.g., Instagram Reels) for social media.

  • Responsible for drafting and scheduling posts for various COTA social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn.

  • Assist with audience feedback surveys and analytics related to Creative B and research events.

  • Assist with writing, editing, designing, and distributing content for publications, press releases, email newsletters, and other marketing materials that communicate the organization's events, research, and programs.

  • Ensure that all communications and marketing materials align with brand standards for the college and the University of Florida.

  • Use project management software, such as Microsoft Teams, to plan content, track work, and collaborate with communications partners.

Average of 10-15 hours per week with slightly more or less time required weekly depending on needs.
Expected Salary:
$17-$22 an hour
Location:In office at the UF Main Campus in Gainesville, FL, and required in-person attendance at various events in Gainesville, Florida.
Preferred:
  • Coursework and/or experience in communications, marketing communications, writing or related areas.

  • Experience with videography/photography, including video production for YouTube and/or Vimeo. (Experience can range from smart phone to SLR camera.)

  • Experience with graphic design and/or use of the Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Excellent copywriting skills.

  • Experience in creating engaging content for various information channels and disparate audiences. (e.g.: understands the difference between audience demographics on Instagram and Facebook and knows how to communicate with each of them effectively.)
