At the beginning of each academic year, all professional expert, short-term, substitute, and student employees with an assignment which willexceed 30 days will be provided with three days (24 hours) of paid sickleave. This paid sick leave is available to be used for an illness of theprofessional expert, short-term, substitute, and student employee orhis/her family member and/or for leave due to domestic violence, sexualassault or stalking. A professional expert, short-term, substitute, andstudent employee shall be entitled to use such sick leave as of the 90th
day of employment. The three days (24 hours) of paid sick leave do not accumulate.
General Description/Summary
Position Summary:
Performs scribe (notetaker) and/or lab proctor services for approved students registered with Disabled Student Programs and Services(DSPS). Accurately takes class notes and transcribes dictated information presented in class. Assists students on an individual basis with verbal description of visual items presented in science laboratory courses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs scribe duties by documenting/transcribing dictated information given by the student or instructor during class.
- Takes quality notes during class lectures or lab courses for students with disabilities. Provides lecture notes in a neat and organized format to students.
- Provides lab proctoring assistance in science lab courses for students with visual limitations by verbally describing visual information for students to understand the content to complete assignments accordingly. Verbal explanations may include differentiating and describing color, texture, thickness, depth, and location of varied substances or visually stimuli presented in person, on the board, overhead screen, on paper or on any other material which depicts a figure or drawing.
- Provides lab proctoring assistance in science lab courses for students with limited mobility by serving as the arms/hands to complete in class assignments per dictated directions by the student under the supervision of the lab instructor.
- Maintains open communication with the student(s) and DSPS about schedule changes.
- Maintains confidentiality of private and sensitive student information.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
- Must attend a new hire orientation via zoom or in person with the DSPS specialist prior to performing job duties.

- Requires the ability to accurately take and transcribe notes.
- Requires sufficient knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, penmanship and typing skills to prepare notes and other correspondence.
- Requires knowledge of and skill in using digital platforms such as Canvas, Zoom, Email, and Microsoft Word.
- Requires the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to meet schedules and timelines.
- Candidate must be dependable to consistently attend class with a student(s) throughout the semester or term.
- Requires sufficient human relations skill to work with a diverse population and exercise patience and respect when interacting with students with disabilities.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public using courtesy, and in a manner that reflects positively on the department and the District.
