Position Description
CLP Engineering (CLPE) is seeking an accomplished Principal Electrical Engineer-Power Systems for a senior role on our engineering team. The Principal Electrical Engineer is considered a Specialist in the electrical engineering field and the role impacts the direction and resource allocation of CLPE programs and projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Possess and maintain broad and in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power distribution systems.
  • Keen ability to apply expertise to complex problems.
  • Develop concept design alternatives, engineering calculations, analysis, and engineering estimates for system improvement projects for substations and distribution systems.
  • Lead the engineering design of sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed engineering packages for microgrid designs with renewable and fossil fuel generation assets.
  • As a Lead Engineer, prepare, review, and approve design reports and procedures.
  • Develop/review complex electrical system models in ETAP (or similar software) and validate various system study findings/recommendations.
  • Develop electrical specifications for major electrical apparatus.
  • Maintain strong and responsive company-customer relationships.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution system.
  • Schedule and attend field walk-downs to determine project requirements.
  • Prepare cost estimates and assist construction personnel throughout project life cycle with tracking and understanding basis of cost estimate.
  • Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, system loading scenarios and assist CLP crew to implement corrective actions.
  • Keep current with utility industry standards and codes. Enforce and maintain all applicable standards and codes for O&M, replacement/renewable and new installations.
  • Provide guidance and mentor junior engineers to help with their career development and oversee their tasks on specific project work.

Skills | Knowledge | Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from accredited university with emphasis in power systems required.
  • Minimum of twelve (12+) years of work experience in electric utility industry to include at least 5 years in a Lead, Supervisor or Project Manager role.
  • PE License required.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) with power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination required.
  • Expert knowledge with medium voltage electrical substations and distribution systems.
  • Previous experience utilizing MS Project (or similar) to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services.
  • High proficiency with power system software (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower or similar)
  • Ability to develop staff through mentoring and coaching.
  • Must have excellent analytical, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written required.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work with various partners from start to finish.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
  • You will be required to obtain Military Base Access Security Clearance.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Travel
  • 25% to project site locations.

Compensation & Benefits
  • We offer an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401k with company contribution, paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Salary range: $155,000 - $186,000/annual based on experience plus eligible to participate in Short Term Incentive Plan.
    • We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
