Job description

Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Quality Engineer I/II to support and improve manufacturing and quality initiatives by applying developing professional expertise to resolve a variety of issues for our solid-state electrolyte and battery cell pilot lines. This role supports hands-on manufacturing processes that include electrolyte production, cell build, and pilot-scale operations, partnering closely with Operations, Engineering, and R&D to analyze manufacturing and quality data, maintain and improve standard work and implement core quality tools.
A Quality Engineer receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments and contributes to investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions with increasing independence, ensuring alignment with internal procedures, industry standards and safety requirements.
Job Duties:
  • Collect, organize, and analyze quality data (incoming, in-process, and final) using quality methods to identify and communicate trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform statistical analysis (e.g., descriptive statistics, normality checks, capability studies) and escalate atypical or complex results for review.
  • Prepare quality reports by summarizing data, documenting observations, highlighting trends, and giving recommendations.
  • Develop, update, and maintain inspection and sampling plans; exercise judgment in adapting standard procedures as needed.
  • Maintain and improve yield reporting and control charts; investigate out-of-control signals and support containment and root cause analysis.
  • Support shop floor and lab activities by monitoring processes and equipment performance, identifying quality concerns, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Define and document test/inspection methods, measurement approaches, and sample selection in collaboration with engineering and quality teams.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, laboratory, or quality.
  • Ability to apply company policies, procedures, and standard practices; comfortable working with general instructions and exercising quality judgment.
  • Proficient problem-solving and analytical skills; experience with quality tools (e.g., Pareto, 5-Why, fishbone), data analysis in Excel, and statistical software (Minitab/JMP); SPC and DOE experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory and/or manufacturing testing (chemical, mechanical and electrical).
  • ASQ CQE or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) concepts and standards (e.g., ISO 9001) preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work hands-on in a manufacturing and/or lab environment.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in continuous improvement.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills; ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Some international travel may be required (<10%).
  • Ability to work on-site at our Louisville and/or Thornton, Colorado facilities.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to spend prolonged periods standing or walking in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.
  • Comfortable working in dry room environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform light lifting and material handling as needed.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required, including but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, lab coats, coveralls, face mask, full-face respirator or PAPR.

Salary Range: $75,00-$115,000/year
