Job description

The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, seeks a highly creative Multiplatform Temporary Political News Producer - Editor with excellent news judgment and a proven track record to develop, write and edit compelling political video news content for The Hill's fast-paced video offering. We are looking for a serious political junkie with a passion for all platforms, from broadcast to YouTube to streaming to social media. The right candidate will be eager to grow, create new formats and be up to date on important political news stories, proactively identifying and pitching engaging ideas to grow The Hill's digital and streaming platforms.

This is an in-office position.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Demonstrable success collaborating with reporters to create original political content for all platforms
Create and develop Political News for multiple platforms, including streaming, digital, YouTube, broadcast and all social media platforms
Proven track record in creating compelling, elevated political news content with unique angles and POV
Experience working collaboratively with other producers, reporters, anchors and departments
Produce, write and edit breaking news interviews
Successfully collaborate with reporters and anchors to produce videos centering on their news stories and investigations
Skilled in SEO and creation of compelling YouTube thumbnails and headlines
Experience in creating and monitoring livestreams to ensure timely, live content for our website, YouTube and OTT platforms
Control room experience for broadcast news a plus, including routing and monitoring TVU sources
Deep knowledge of production equipment, including audio mixing, camera setup and lighting
Ability to enforce quality control standards for storytelling, brand voice, and production consistency
Ability to create and copy edit lower 3rds, headlines and descriptions with little oversight
High-level technical expertise of codecs, and multiple video formats
Produce, write and edit unique video news packages from various angles with material from press conferences, Congressional floor votes, and related hearings
Run and program live shows via OBS, VMIX and Frequency related to live news streaming shows
Ability to keep up with a fast-moving news cycle, and able to pivot as a story or the news changes rapidly
Must follow the news daily to the extent you can confidently and proactively conceptualize political video news series ideas or standalone packages on relevant news and policy headlines

Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 3+ years' experience producing news / political content / writing news / breaking news / political content for digital, broadcast and/or social platforms
Proven track record in developing and executing compelling editorial video formats
Experience enforcing quality control standards for storytelling, brand voice, and production consistency
Strong news writing, research, and communication skills
Experience in pitching and producing video packages
Keen eye for strong and dynamic visual design
Solid news judgment with a specific interest and experience in politics
Ability to multitask
Follows current video trends
Understanding of audience engagement (ability to understand internal and competitive analytics to understand why certain videos command larger audiences)
Skills / basic knowledge in all things Adobe Creative Suite, with experience in Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop
ENPS or iNews knowledge
Highly resourceful team player, also able to be extremely effective independently
Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and able to build relationships
Able to accurately handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
Bachelor's degree in journalism, television production, or equivalent experience
Able to work nights and weekends as needed

Salary Range: $63,000.00 - $68,000.00 based upon experience

Part time employees are eligible for 401(k) and any local/state leave plans. Union positions are subject to the benefits outlined in their Collective Bargaining Agreement.
