Position Summary
The Outreach & Program manager is focused on crafting compelling, mission-driven content that tells our story as social workers, connects with the social work community, the community at large and our programming. This person will serve as the lead creator and storyteller, across digital, print, and multimedia formats for NASW IN & NASW TN Chapter. This position also supports the NASW IN Program Committee and educational programming and events in Indiana.
Working closely with the executive director, the strategist ensures that all content and events reflects the voice, values, and priorities of Indiana and Tennessee social workers.
Key Responsibilities – NASW IN & NASW TN
- Research, write, and produce content on social work topics, professional development, community impact, and member stories. Provide support to staff on relevant policy issues and legislative white papers.
- Stay current on social work issues in Indiana, Tennessee and nationally to generate timely, relevant content ideas.
- Interview members, partners, and experts to develop human-centered stories that reflect the profession’s values and challenges.
- Collaborate with the colleagues to integrate content into campaigns, events, and advocacy efforts.
- Adapt tone, format, and delivery method for different audiences (students, seasoned professionals, legislators, public).
- Use performance data (e.g., email opens, web traffic, engagement) to refine content and identify new opportunities.
- Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all written and visual content.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Master’s degree a plus.
- 5+ years of experience creating content and programming. Especially focused on social issues, public interest topics, or professional advocacy.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics.
- Demonstrated ability to create content across multiple formats and platforms.
- Strong interviewing and research skills; comfortable working independently.
- Experience with content tools like Canva, Adobe Express, or podcast/audio tools is a plus.
- Passion for social justice and a deep respect for the work of social workers; direct experience in the field is highly valued.
