OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Relief Technician to join our team on a temporary, per diem basis to provide flexible operational assistance and shift coverage for live control room and master control operations. In this role, you will operate production automation systems and control room equipment to deliver error-free live newscasts, sports events, local productions, and daily on-air commercial transmission. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at executing rapid, real-time direction from news, sports, and traffic teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production Automation: Demonstrate high proficiency in operating Sony ELC production automation systems and Evertz Mediator (or comparable master control playout platforms).
  • Live Newscast Execution: Operate production equipment for daily live newscasts, maintaining close collaboration with News Directors and Producers to carry out fast-paced directional changes.
  • Sports & Local Programming: Execute live and taped local sports and public affairs productions under the direction of local production teams.
  • On-Air Playout & Traffic Integration: Manage automated transmission operations to integrate commercial content with live programming, coordinating with Sales, Traffic, and centralized Hub personnel.
  • Technical Quality Control: Monitor on-air signals and equipment status to ensure consistent, high-quality broadcast execution.
  • General Operations: Perform additional operational duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 3-4 years of operational experience in a medium to major market broadcast environment.
  • Education: Associate degree or equivalent hands-on broadcast experience required; Bachelor's degree in Communications, Telecommunications, or a related field preferred.
  • Schedule & Availability: Available to work on a temporary, per diem basis to assist with short-term coverage, planned leave, breaking news, weekends, or holidays as needed.
  • Technical Skills: Proven proficiency with Sony ELC, Evertz Mediator (or equivalent automation/playout systems), and standard live control room hardware.
  • Adaptability: Exceptional ability to maintain composure and perform reliably under high-stress, live-air conditions.
  • Physical & License Requirements: Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
