Job description

The AV Events team, a collective of professionals providing AV technical pre-production, equipment recommendations, and live event technical execution, is seeking an AV Events Specialist. This role involves acting as the primary contact for technical support in premier screening theaters/event production spaces, including virtual and hybrid events on Google Meet and Zoom platforms. The AV Events Specialist will serve as a Technical Director, Lead Video Engineer, and/or Technical Production Manager, directing the setup of video systems, operating the Video Switcher, and managing overall show production.

Responsibilities

Act as event production Technical Director, Lead Video Engineer, and/or Technical Production Manager, adapting to show needs
Set up, configure, operate, and facilitate support for event production spaces
Serve as the primary point of contact for all audio, video, and broadcast production needs
Use and follow the run-of-show document as a guide for proper show flow details
Partner with other crew members on the execution of elements before and during shows
Attend pre-show production meetings to review responsibilities
Ensure testing of all show playback elements for proper playout
Ensure all switchers, graphics, mixers, microphones, and ancillary gear are in working order
Understand roles and responsibilities of an AV production team on events
Reset space after events to pre-production standards
Note any equipment failures and escalate to the AV team through the ticket system
Previous experience supporting hybrid and virtual event platforms and workflows
Assist with inventory management and quality control for client-owned equipment

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

Audio & RF

  • Yamaha Audio Consoles: Intermediate to advanced proficiency with CL, TF or DM series (building mixes, live mixing, monitoring, and signal path troubleshooting).
  • Wireless Systems & RF: Experienced with Shure Wireless Workbench and RF coordination, along with lavalier mic placement techniques.
  • Networked Audio: Experienced with Dante Controller for basic subscription routing and troubleshooting.

Video

  • Camera Operation: Skilled in simultaneously controlling multiple PTZ cameras while also switching video.
  • Video Switching & Routing: Hands-on experience with Ross Carbonite (or similar)-building looks, programming PiPs and transitions, live switching, and real-time troubleshooting. Experience with Ross Ultrix routers is a big plus.
  • Video Routing: Experience with Ross Ultrix routers is a big plus.
  • Network Video: Familiar with connecting NDI devices, not required but will come in handy.
  • LED Walls: Familiar with best practices for optimizing content for LED walls as well as basic troubleshooting.
  • Passionate about Video: Passionate about video technicals (camera and sensor types, frame rates, resolutions, routers, codecs, and container formats) is a big plus.

Lighting:

  • Familiarity with building and recording looks.
  • Familiarity with ETC Lighting consoles.

VC & Streaming

  • Video Conferencing:
    • Highly experienced with video conferencing best practices and limitations.
    • Highly experienced with coaching virtual participants.
    • A passion for keeping up-to-speed with new features in apps like Google Meet and Zoom Webinar.
  • Recording & Encoders: Fundamental experience operating recording/streaming encoders (AJA, Epiphan, Elemental, etc.)
  • Live Streaming & Virtual Events: Experienced with virtual/live-stream event production and directing crew on comms (YouTube, BrandLive, Twitch, Zoom Webinars) is a big plus.

Networking

  • Basic skills: confident with pinging IP addresses and accessing equipment UI's.

Software & Systems

  • Proficient with QLab show building.
  • Proficient with Elgato Stream Deck programming.
  • Proficient with MacOS.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace apps.
  • Basic video editing: in Adobe Premiere Pro (heads/tails trimming, simple exports).
  • Highly Digitally Organized: Proficient in project tracking, post-event reporting, documentation creation, file sharing, and calendar management.

RESPONSIBILITIES & PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Show Execution & Leadership

  • Control Room Leadership: Confident and prepared to lead broadcast control room and FOH booth operations for an internal theater, directing crew members during rehearsals and live shows.
  • Event Advancing: Gathering and sometimes pressing for show details for high-impact events, persisting through deadline pressures to wrangle content for town halls and summits.
  • Show Calling: Experienced in show calling full-day events and major summits with many moving pieces.
  • Executive Interaction: Experienced collaborating directly with executives and their administrative teams on events.
  • Run of Show building: Able to take an organizer's run of show or no client run of show at all, and build a detailed technical run of show.
  • Maintenance Escalations: Swiftly report detailed break/fix issues.

  • High-Pressure & High Confidentiality: Strong situational awareness for yourself and your team when dealing with events that have both executive teams and highly confidential content.
  • Agility & Communication: Unfazed by last-minute Run of Show changes. Skilled at patiently explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Building Trust with Solid Consistency: This role is100% onsite support. Rigid consistency is required for building trust with the client.
  • Transparency & Honesty: Be honest with management about missing skills and we will work to provide them.
