Job description

Job Title: Wastewater Treatment TechnicianJob Description

The Wastewater Treatment Technician supports the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of an industrial wastewater treatment system in a food manufacturing environment. Working on 1st shift, this role focuses on operating, monitoring, and maintaining treatment equipment and processes, performing routine laboratory testing, and ensuring all activities meet environmental regulations and plant standards.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment equipment and processes to ensure compliance with environmental standards and permit requirements.
  • Inspect pumps, motors, blowers, tanks, valves, and related treatment equipment to identify operating issues, abnormal conditions, or potential failures.
  • Monitor system performance using gauges, meters, SCADA systems, and other process control equipment.
  • Collect wastewater samples and perform routine laboratory testing, including COD, TSS, Total Solids, pH, and other process analyses.
  • Record and maintain accurate operational data, testing results, maintenance activities, and regulatory documentation.
  • Adjust chemical feed systems and treatment processes based on operating conditions and laboratory results.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and lubrication of wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Submit maintenance work requests and coordinate repairs with maintenance personnel and outside service providers as needed.
  • Monitor sludge handling operations and coordinate waste removal activities when required.
  • Communicate system status, operating concerns, and shift handoff information clearly to supervisors and team members.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve system efficiency, reliability, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Maintain compliance with all environmental, safety, food manufacturing, and plant operating procedures at all times.
Essential Skills
  • Working knowledge of wastewater treatment systems and processes.
  • Experience with wastewater treatment operations and water treatment processes.
  • Ability to perform water testing, including COD, TSS, Total Solids, pH, and related analyses.
  • Understanding of basic chemistry and microbiological principles related to wastewater treatment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, process diagrams, and operating procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to use computerized maintenance or operational systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with operations and maintenance teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with jar testing and other process optimization techniques in wastewater treatment.
  • Hands-on experience in wastewater treatment plants or industrial water treatment facilities.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and process control equipment.
  • Comfort working with chemical feed systems and sludge handling operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement improvements in system efficiency, reliability, safety, and environmental performance.

This role is based in a wastewater treatment plant serving a food manufacturing facility. Work takes place in an industrial setting around pumps, motors, blowers, tanks, valves, and process control equipment, including SCADA systems and laboratory testing instruments. The position follows a 1st shift schedule and involves hands-on work with wastewater processes, chemical feed systems, and sludge handling operations in a fast-paced production environment, with adherence to environmental, safety, and food manufacturing procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $36.00/hr.
