We are seeking motivated, safety-conscious individuals with experience in chemical cleaning, ship repair, industrial services, marine systems, piping, or related fields. Experienced chemical cleaning and shipboard technicians are strongly encouraged to apply.

Candidates with less direct experience but strong mechanical aptitude, industrial experience, or a willingness to learn a specialized trade will also be considered.

Pay is based on experience and qualifications.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical cleaning and flushing of VCHT (Vacuum Collection, Holding and Transfer) systems and shipboard piping systems.
  • Set up and operate pumps, hoses, tanks, temporary piping, valves, and other chemical cleaning equipment.
  • Mix, handle, and apply chemical cleaning agents in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitor chemical cleaning operations, including chemical concentration, pH, temperature, flow, and circulation.
  • Prepare systems for cleaning and perform circulation, flushing, rinsing, and neutralization activities.
  • Identify piping, valves, pumps, tanks, and other system components.
  • Monitor equipment and connections during operations and identify leaks, flow problems, or other issues.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving equipment and system problems.
  • Perform or assist with chemical neutralization and waste-handling activities.
  • Work aboard Navy vessels in mechanical spaces, tanks, bilges, and other confined or restricted areas as required.
  • Follow all applicable Navy, shipyard, company, OSHA, and environmental safety requirements.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection and chemical protective equipment.
  • Maintain accurate work records, chemical usage logs, and other required documentation.
  • Perform equipment setup, teardown, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, shipyard personnel, and Navy representatives.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid US driver’s license or reliable transportation required.
  • Real ID-compliant driver’s license or state issued ID required.
  • Previous experience in chemical cleaning, industrial cleaning, ship repair, shipyard operations, marine maintenance, or industrial services.

  • Ability to read and follow written procedures and technical instructions.
  • Ability to safely handle chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials as required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required shipyard/base access credentials.
  • Must be able to work safely in a physically demanding shipyard environment.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience with VCHT, sanitary, marine piping, tanks, or other shipboard systems.
  • Experience operating pumps, hoses, temporary piping systems, or other industrial equipment.
  • Experience handling industrial chemicals or hazardous materials.
  • HAZWOPER training or experience.
  • Confined Space Entry experience or certification.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment and system issues.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily aboard U.S. Navy vessels and in shipyard/industrial environments. Employees may work in mechanical spaces, tanks, bilges, confined spaces, and other challenging shipboard environments.
