Job Description
Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
The Housekeeping positions provide the total campus population an environmentally safe and secure area for the fulfillment of the MECC educational purpose. Focus is given to floor care, classrooms and laboratories, restrooms, offices, and special projects.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
KSAs necessary to be successful in the position
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Commercial cleaning experience in operating commercial floor care equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Detail oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the confidential nature of our college business.
  • Ability to provide information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, email, or in person.
  • Able to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Is reliable, responsible, and dependable when fulfilling obligations.
