Job description

Please only use this application if you live in Puerto Rico and are applying as a local Puerto Rico staff. Thank you!
Details:

PPM exists to build up, encourage, and assist the local Church in serving and reaching their communities for Christ. As a Seasonal Staff member serving as an Assistant Trip Leader or Trip Leader, you'll spend time investing in these genuine partnerships by facilitating both logistical and relational aspects of these short-term mission opportunities. PPM staff will stay on site with mission teams, providing them with a mission trip experience in one of our host locations, while also participating in ministry opportunities alongside the teams during the week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Mentorship & Guidance: Lead team through logistical, relational, and spiritual aspects of their trip.
  • Facilitating Ministry: Oversee and support service projects, relational ministry, and outreach. Encourage participants during ministry time while maintaining oversight to ensure that projects and tasks are running smoothly, supplies needed are available, and questions are answered.
  • Relational Leadership: Build and maintain positive relationships with local PPM church partners and ministries.
  • Debrief & Devotions: Assist in leading evening devotions and Gospel centered debriefs.
  • Meal Prep: Work with other staff to prepare breakfast and dinner for the team each day. Help set out items for people to prepare their own sack lunches. If meal prep is not required, be of support to the local cooks as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory, ensuring everything needed is ready for each meal or ministry site, and assist the trip leader with supply runs during the week.
  • Facility Care: Care and cleaning for the lodging facilities to ensure PPM groups leave places better than we found them, in addition to facility prep before team arrival and clean up after team departure.
  • Translating: Help translate from Spanish to English and English to Spanish during church services, ministry time, and other conversations for host pastors, church members and team participants.
  • Driving: Drive participants and other staff from site to site in rental vehicles (including 15+ passenger vans), ensuring safe transport for all.
  • Expenses: Trip Leaders will be responsible for managing each trip budget and tracking expenses during the trip, in addition to completing the trip's expense report. Assistant Leaders may be responsible for turning in receipts for reimbursement if applicable.

We are currently hiring for domestic placements, as we hire local staff within the countries we serve to lead trips in our international locations. Praying Pelican Missions values hiring local staff in the regions in which we host missions trips for a variety of reasons. We place staff locally as often as we can. Seasonal staff are considered part-time, temporary staff, and service ends upon completion of their final trip of the season.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Christ Follower: You are devoted to Jesus and you are actively engaged in your church and have experience in ministry and/or missions.
  • 18+: You must be at least 18 years old at the time of service.
  • Availability: You are able to work at least 2-4 consecutive weeks at a time, during PPM's busy season (Spring and/or Summer).
  • Training: You can attend the mandatory training conference, which will be held in Puerto Rico during the winter or spring.
  • Selfless & Adaptable: You are a dependable team player who works well with others and can easily adjust to changes.
  • Community-Oriented: You are comfortable living in a close community environment and working with a diverse group of people.
  • Problem Solver: You are able to resolve trip or interpersonal issues effectively and quickly.
  • Humble: You are open to constructive criticism and navigate conflict through a Biblical lens.
  • Open-minded: You enjoy working with people from diverse cultural, geographical, and denominational backgrounds, focusing on common ground rather than differences.
  • In Alignment with our Statement of Faith: This is a core requirement for all staff. It is as follows:
    • The Bible is God's complete and perfect Word and our ultimate authority as followers of Christ. (2 Timothy 3)
    • We are all lost, fallen short of the glory of God, and in need of a Savior. (Romans 3)
    • Jesus came to earth for the purpose of seeking and saving the lost. (Luke 19:10)
    • Jesus died on the cross. Three days later, He rose from the grave, paying the ultimate sacrifice and conquering death for all who believe in Him. (1 Peter 3:18, 1 John 2:2, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:9)
    • As a result of God's grace alone, through faith in Christ alone, we are saved. (Ephesians 2, John 14)
    • Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are One. (John 1)
    • Jesus Himself commissioned His followers (the Church) to go into the world and make disciples. (Matthew 28)
